You can just buy from reputable breeders. Seems like the best way to me.
Alright it is getting ridiculous the number of "strains" that are out there now. Very few dispensaries carry and good true strains anymore that have been properly bred for strength and consistancy. They just have a bunch of bullshit strains that they grew from a seed that came out of a garden where a plant hermaph'd and they didnt pull it soon enough. Or the even dumber ones who grow a well recognized strain and try and give it their own name. We need to set standards for what is and is not an actual strain and if anybody has any ideas how we can get this started please let me know how i can help.

Yeah I know but that doesnt change the fact that everytime I go to the dispensary 3/4 of their strains are some bullshit that I have never heard of and will never find again and even if they had more seeds from the same source they couldnt grow it again because they havent worked it at all. They think creating a new strain is as easy as mixing any two strains together and dont understand the first thing about breeding for specific genes.
it's hard preserving strains too. eventually you need some hybrid vigor to counter genetic waning from re-breeding & cloning. even original breeders have to water their strains down before they turn into schwag. i'm not worried about names as much as which breeder has looked for some super phenos and maintains strict quality control. if it's some funky named mutt knockoff with a high better than either original "top 10 strain" parent, i'm fine with that unless it's some celebration of murder and the darkside that so many masturbate to in one way or another. saying death words anywhere near the garden ruins the flow man. bad feng shui
i bet it's hard to keep a consistent supply of anything superior at a medi-mart
Jack's Cleaner 2, Sweet Haze, Haze x Skunk & 8 Miles High are all much fun, but fluffy, fuzzy 1985 Columbian Gold popcorn's that trippy! Thai? Malawi Gold? Mekong Haze (Cambodian)? Don't know.
i would have thought 1/2 if not more were some made up name of an unknown
If no one buy the inferior weed then they will have to grow something new. As long as they have customers they won't do anything different.
It might just be simple business decesion by the disp, I could elaborate if I knew what the percentage of paitents were, ie, what percentage go there for pain and what percentage of people go there for mental issues, ie depresion, add, adhd etc. Anyone know?
I love life, support the Military and I Vote! Amsterdam Seed Company will STEAL YOUR MONEY AND SEND YOU NOTHING
Could you elaborate more please? Ive seen the same strain cloned 15+ times with nothing you speak of happening. Also i believe it was Soma that said to restore vigor, put the plant outside in the spring. Something about the spectrum of the sun then
I have a relative that grows for a disp. He told me a story once of him growing a nice bubblegum. No one bought it so they changed the name to bazooka. Sold out in a couple days after that.

it is crazy all the US strains out their now its realy starting to boom like rare dankness just came out and have more than 50 strains and most of the breeders started with dutch seeds then crossed them and few stablized now their just crossing crosses and slaping a name on them and selling theirs tons of phenos but for the most part bred with only good phenos so most are going to be good not too many people are growing the dutch seeds in med states cause you can buy tga,rd, and all those great clone only strains that they don't see the need to grow ak 47 ,white widow and shit
i'm just trying to pull the old memories from reading my 3 grow guides, particularly the '85 or so edition of indoor MJ horticulture about on a monthly basis even if i had no beans or genes. i KNEW kees at SSSC was full of BS when he tried to assure me skunk #1 was "just what i'm looking for".
i like the great diversity out there. that makes for a healthy gene pool. if you restrict a gene pool too much, especially with inbreeding, you lose breeding vigor. definitely read the revised edition of indoor hort. it should contain most of what any grower should need to know and even dabbles in college level genetic theory. i just skimmed those chapters for the gist.
genetic mutations happen naturally. the longer you try to extend a given set of genes through cloning, the more mutations will creep in. like i said, i'm pretty sure it's called genetic waning. that's why when breeders seek to refresh a tired old strain, they use strains with very different traits to get hybrid vigor instead of "in breeding" with strains that have traits closer to what's desired in the original.
the worst route to cuttings getting tired is making copies of copies as i recall. it's best to keep your clone mother as long as possible, but even she gets old eventually.
