Jack's Old Time Haze

Strain: Jack's Old Time Haze
Genetics: Pure sativa.
Flower Time: 17-20 weeks
Indoor/Outdoor: Outdoor if you have any sense.
Height: (outdoor) as much as 14' or so. Grows VERY tall and bushy unless trained.

Very difficult to grow so far from a clone. The clone was healthy but smallish and took over a week to climatize and start rooting into the media. Now that it's rooting it's growing VERY aggressively. Prefers a very dry soil and rich nute solutions.

I'm growing this one like a vine indoors. It's going to be taken to 2 feet tall in veg with HEAVY LST and topping and super-cropping then I'll slap it in the flower room for 6 months and train it to wrap around the room.

17-20 weeks?! Fucking hell! It'll be worth it when your mind is racing at a million mph though :D

The guy that I've been taking some hints on it from suggested that it's going to be closer to the full 20 weeks but that the smoke is going to take me back 20 years. I'm up for it. It's just going to take up an extra slot in my flower room. I'm trying to decide if I want to keep a mother of it in the veg cabinet. Not sure.

Well, it's being LST'd. I'm going to grow this one for a few months in veg so it gets really big then I'm just going to flower it and be done with the long running freak. It's nute sensitive and spurty and it's going to be a M'er F'er to manicure the flowers. I'm doing this exactly once.

I just harvested with my buddy, his outdoor crop of giant Haze monster trees...Literally like 10 days of 10+ hours a day. I love the smoke though. Some of the finest Sativa high around.

I might get a chance to do my own outdoor, and if I do, you can be sure that this will be a part of it.

Good luck with the indoor chance...I have been thinking about training one plant around the perimeter of my box...could be a fun project while the real grow continues without interruption.

I know I've got to be out of my mind doing this thing indoor. It's really taking to the LST so far though. I'm shooting for 8-10 branches then I'll start working the branches over a bit. I know I'm going to have to be pretty aggressive on the tie-downs when I put it to the flower room. Tell me... any idea how long the stretch will last with a 20 week flowering time? Should I still plan on the first 3-4 weeks and then long flower formation or is it closer to 8-10 weeks of stretch with progressive flower formation the whole time or ?

Well... if I can recall his plants were about 9' in June. They topped out at about 12-15' just about a month ago...so I would say that they are pretty consistently growing. Be prepared that this could go really fucking out of control...his started showing pistils in June (that he noticed anyways) and we harvested in late October.

I was planning on starting a rooted clone at like 8" and keeping it just a cola that will get trained around the perimeter of my box, wrapped up in wire or something to contain it. I think 8-10 branches might be a bit much but I dont know what space constraints you have. I could easily see how one plant could use my entire 4x4 space with just like 4 branches...maybe even less. They are a hardy and prolific growing strain. I really want to see how this turns out!

I might start a bean and just do a 12/12 with one from seed for the hell of it.

many thanks for that heads up! That's really going to affect my strategy. If it's a constant grower then perhaps I can do a little training of it while it's flowering. If they tend toward big veg growth during flower then I don't see why not other than risk of stress-herm.

I have a 5x5 area that's a tad over 8' tall. I guess I'll get that baby in there next week instead of waiting.

I'll be doing a grow journal of it, probably in this thread since it's so uncommon, figure people will really want to know if it's worth the effort and exactly how much effort it will be. I'm pretty confident I can take it to finish though.

Thanks again bud!

EDIT: Grow plan: 5 gallon bucket, coco + perlite, GH nutes, tap water. The room has tons of florescent light and a handful of HPS lights. Depends what I need on what'll be in use. Probably start it out on a 150W HPS then stab a 400W over it after it's got some mass on it.

I would think that if you start it really damn short, top it once or twice (which my buddy did have to do in early flower in June)...you might be able to keep it contained...It just loves to grow, so even the lateral branches will shoot way the hell up there....I grew a mother plant of Haze for clones and once it is fully established it takes off, I know in the beginning it can seem slow but dont be fooled, that bitch was out of control and gave more cuts than we needed for sure...

I scribed to this thread so I can see whats happening...this is the first thread that I have scribed to because its nice to see someone doing something fun and different! thank you and I am going to pop a haze bean tonight and see what happens! We can compare our trials!

I know it's a shiitty pic but:

sitting under my newly assembled 400W HPS, next to my other 400W HPS is jack on the extreme right and a big topped LST'd, super cropped SnS Diesel at 2nd from right. On the left are my 2 x 1-month-old SnS Diesels.

good work man.

Just wait for like another 2 weeks and that Jacks will get to the point of a regular plant, then it just keeps going...

Well its a strain that not many people are very familiar with...I am not surprised about that considering how frickin' huge they get. I still havent popped that bean yet but I should...just got so much else going on in there right now.

I have been smoking the Haze during the days for the last month or so...it has been great. I only got like quarter left...

In 6 days in since it was put into the flower room the base of the stem has more than doubled in girth. It was less fat than a standard pencil by about 10%, now it's about as big around as a sharpie at the base. There's some wild taper to it and the fattening is moving up the stem. I've noted that stem girth and total foliar mass are closely related. This should start getting exciting in about a week. The SnS diesel that's in with it is acting much more typically of a MJ plant that I'm used to and already starting it's growth spurt in a big way. The Jack on the other hand seems to still be devoting a lot of energy to root expansion. Oh my!

The 2 other SnS diesels I have next to this set (they're at a full month completed of flowering time) have some meaty stems... they started out like pencil thick and are now about 3/4 as big around as a big ol' meaty full size cigar. I just know the Jack is going to end up requiring me to use a friggin axe to chop it down.

NICE!

The Jack is a patient grower at first...that's for sure. But it is a diligent one as well...

I popped my bean last night and plugged it in to a cube today...gonna go 12/12 from seed...

I am growing a strain right now that is called XJ-13 that is a cross between Jack Herer & G13. It is a total sativa...but is looking to be exceptionally potent, although the buds don't seem prone to really filling out they look really tasty.

Thanks for the update!

XJ13 is a personal favorite of mine. Club weed examples around here have been very nice. They've not been as dense as some (which I prefer) but from the size of the dried flowers I've bought, it's capable of tossing out some respectable hogs... at least as big around as a redbull can. The stuff I bought was 1.5" across dry.

On another note, I decided I don't want to grow all year round. So, I've popped the rest of my plants into flower. They won't net as much as they could have if I waited another month but I've got the light and the space and so what the heck. I have 6 new SnS Diesel's, my 707-headband and 2 blue dreams. The blue dream are bushy little pine trees with tiny internode distances. They're about 9" tall now with better than 20 branches. The 707HB has similar internode spacing but a 14" long stalk that's a little unstable. It was only getting worse so I figured I'd just flower it so the stalk would fatten up before it got any taller. It's been trained into a neat curve. The SnS's are mostly fairly small but they all have HUGE root systems. The coco and 3-cup pots I had them in were totally bound up with roots so it's a good thing I planted them when I did. I let them stretch their legs a bit while transplanting too. All 9 of those are in 22 gallons of coco-perlite mix. I figure an ounce or thereabouts from each on average is my expected yield. I'm going to grab a screen today and try my hand at a SCROG since I have effectively a SOG in that bin now and all I need is a screen to try and keep the tops at even heights. Once I harvest all my flowering plants I should have enough supply to carry me through till late summer. I'm figuring I have to grow for 4-5 months then I can chill for 6-7 months.

I haven't planned for what Jack will produce. I'm hoping it'll spit out more than 1 ounce but if it gets as out of control as the stem base is suggesting it'll probably be more like 2-3 ounces. It's really big now.. the rockwool cube has started to fully split apart by the stem and root ball now. It's as big around at the base as my big SnS's and they have almost 2 ounces each (estimated dry weight) on them now.

My friend popped over last night and told me I have to find a way to do this professionally. I guess my personality is perfect for it.

Sounds like you are going to have your hands full!

The haze gives a decent yield due to size, but there is a good reason that its not an indoor commercial crop... The high is what its really all about.
Good call on the screen...I was thinking of trying to incorporate one, but right now I dont seem to need it.

I did pop that haze bean and it has sprouted. I am gonna wait for 2-3 sets of true leaves and then send it in to flower, I am training it single cola and quite possibly around the perimeter of the box to leave everything else unhindered.

Thanks for the update!

jack has grown 4 inches in 2 days. I'm already having to tie down branches. I have managed to keep the canopy of all the plants at a relatively stable plateau. With 5 strains going that's fun. I'll get some pics today since there is time.

Holy shit... you've entered the point of no return! I got my bean sprouted and should be starting the experimental single cola when it gets its real fans going...

I got a SOG perpetual that is going, trays of Headband (mostly aside from 1 white widow and 1 XJ13)...the jacks will be a fun trial to say the least. I will try and get some of my really good pics up tonight!
