How the hell does some guy name sam the skunk aka dave watson with gw pharma get patents on genetics. Is this dudes ego so big that he thinks he invented pot.A lot of hippies did the leg work while he was running his business.Did Colombians give them the right to use their land race genetics, did thai people,so did sam tell the mexicans he owns thier genetic cannabis history, did the farmers agree, did they bow to this man,or did they laugh and kick his ass of thier land.I don't like it when i see these money mongers horde beans only to patent them.It makes me think their more with the government and DEA then any one else, and i would like to see sam skunk tell me he owns anything i have,But its nice to be able to say things that are not controlled by the closet hack seed business at icmag and the hypocrisy of that site.Man the inflated egos of those dudes is annoying, they think their gods gift to cannabis.while sam and gypsy thoroughly screw up land races the world over,by selling skunk seeds to indigenous farmers,is this their mind set ?while they keep the unadulterated beans in -30 for them selves ,so while sam and gypsy thoroughly screw up land races the world over and prophit a large amount, then voila the seeds untouched by skunk#1 come out to the masses through big pharma at a 1000 a pop,wow some great dudes their.money money money.I can see their angle a mile away, and i wouldn't trust the stories behind the skunkmans genetics because hes like all business men,why let a fib get in the way of success. And how do you patent genetics that have no valid history, just stories and innuendo built up by ed rosenhal and HT,is that credible enough evidence to constitute it being the truth.not were im sitting.to me its a big scam unfolding before our eyes.we will see how much and to whom we pay when pot is legalized,im sure i know the answer.

So we get medical cannabis in every state and province and leveraged legalized marijuana, then what,am i to trust big pharma, stock holders lobbyists and politicians to do whats right. No i expect them to increase the laws and penalties to protect their investments and increase the value of thier shares for the stock holders. So when i look at who's doing what,i see them waiting to cash in while the community they claim to be part of will suffer more regulations and strickter inforcement. And will laws be broken if your growing something with skunk#1 in its genetics, which HT tells us is everything,is thier certian dna that prooves what is what, how are these patents applied and to what. But im sure that big pharma wont mind if the average joe grows his own med, they love giving money away.I may be way off base but i dont like what i see down the road.

how does the "skunkman" get off calling himself the SKUNKman when skunk #1 is SWEET skunk?? does he really think sweet skunk is superior to real skunk? SMELLS LIKE BULLSHIT. as for gypsy nirvana, that guy is a fucking theif and the ONLY reason his shithouse website has any members is because of what happened to overgrow.
i smell rats more then skunks,we will see what side their on when big pharma has thier annual share holders meeting and they cry for stricter laws against the people who dont bye from them.and ed rosenhack along with danny danko will be at the trough when the money rolls in.if icmag is any indication of things to expect, they run that like a concentration camp, you buy into their inflated importance or get banned, imagine them with patents for cannabis, but i believe half of 1%of what they say.many a people and war vets worked to bring cannabis here long before those guys saw dollar signs.but that's right high times and ed said it so,so it must be so.

Does anyone have a link to the new patent informaiton? I've been following GW for years, CO2 extracted honey oil in a spay solution. They mix strains (indica/sativa) to get the cannaboid mixture they want. A guy I know spends $800 a week on Sativex (actually his medical insurance does), a very similar product could be made in the kitchen with a bottle of grape seed oil and a mickey of everclear.

"The drug companies want control, rather than just a ban, for they know the medicinal benefits of marijuana. They have attempted to substitute synthetic derivatives for the raw herb, because the raw herb cannot be patented."

- Ed Rosenthal and Steve Kubby, Why Marijuana Should be Legal.

.

Cannabis: "new" and "distinct"
There are indications that this partnership could allow GW to attempt a medical cannabis monopoly. Even if GW does not move in this direction, some other company will likely do so.

In an interview with Pot-TV, law professor Ikechi Mgbeoji of the University of British Columbia agreed that it was possible that big drug companies could try to patent currently illegal medicinal plants, such as poppies, coca and cannabis. These plants, or extracts thereof, could be reintroduced with the claim that they've been gone from the market long enough to qualify as "new" and "distinct" species under the 1961 Plant Patent Act, and thus be subject to patent law.

Professor Mgbeoji explained: "There is in fact the possibility that, if the use of cannabis is decriminalized, and some of the varieties that had been known to farmers who farmed in secret are now available to those with the means, it is possible that they could lay claims to have discovered these strains... they can in fact apply and obtain plant variety protection."

Attempts have already been made by others to patent the ayahuasca vine (a tool for hallucination and visions), the neem tree (a powerful antibiotic) and tumeric (an anti-inflammation tool and the main ingredient in curry). These attempts to patent natural plants have had varying degrees of success, depending on the amount of opposition.2

Canada's patent law – unlike that in the US – does not allow as much latitude to patent medicinal plants outright. Canada requires some "purification" process here first. Hence, in Canada we will see the THC patented as "Tetranabinex" and CBD patented as "Nabidiolex." The outright strain patent on, say, "Panama Red" would be reserved for the US.

Mgbeoji warned that Bayer could attempt to "'polish up' the cruder aspects of the whole thing [marijuana] and repackage it as a new invention and put a patent on it. The same thing was done with Aspirin."

Monopoly games
The Plant Patent Act was written the same year as the first global drug law – the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs – and may very well be designed to create a medicinal plant monopoly. 1961 was also the year of the Thalidomide scandal – where a synthetic sedative for pregnant mothers (arguably a cannabis substitute) was linked to birth defects in the western world.

This was the origin of the expensive "safety and efficacy tests" that determine if pills (and now herbs) are allowed on the legal market. 1961 may mark the start of the shift away from a medicine monopoly through synthetics, and the start of a medicine monopoly through patents. Who wants to keep all their monopoly money wrapped up in pills when it looks like everyone will soon see that herbs do it cheaper, more effectively and without birth defects?

Incidentally, 1962 was the year Bayer, Hoechst, and BASF established the Codex Alimentarius Commission – an attempt at a monopoly on all the herbs and vitamins.

He seems to be more of an advocate, working with government rather than the pharmaceutical companies. I know next to nothing about him, that quote was part of the article that I linked.

"Rosenthal has been active in promoting and developing policies of civil regulation for medicinal marijuana. With the passage of California's pioneering Proposition 215 in 1996, which authorizes medicinal use of marijuana, he worked with the state and local governments to implement the delivery of pharmaceutical grade cannabis to patients with a doctor's recommendation to use marijuana."

ive studied polotics .long enough to know many people play all the angles,i like to think that thier is not an under tow fighting for legalization, and for tough laws of were you get it from, thier are a lot of wolves in sheep's clothing.but in time we will see who is what, and what is where, but unless their are investagtions looking deep in the bowels of these numberd acounts,we may never know what side of the fence any ones on,but greed usually rules the day in todays society, and ed makes good money traveling around showing which way to hang a light, and say 12/12 for flowering.

Speaking of patents, did you know that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has a patent on using cannabis in any form for medicinal purposes? Yep, the federal government that placed marijuana on the schedule one list holds a patent that it granted itself for any medical use of marijuana. The patent application claims to cite evidence that marijuana has medicinal value, yet we are told it does not. In fact, there are casses in court today challenging state's rights to permit legal marijuana and the patent is thrown back in the government's face...

look it up, patent # 6630507
