I'm doing a grow that includes about 20 regular seeds (Northern Lights Special, Afghani Special and Haze Special. Free from KC Brains Holland).

I haven't grown regular seeds before, so I'm wondering how many I can expect to be male. Do people that use regular seeds usually find that about the same percentage turn out male, or is it completely random?

Could I be very lucky and end up with 18 females? Or very unlucky and end up with 18 males?

you could be lucky i hope you are, however i would say a third will be female. some ppl would say just clone some and put into flower early.

Yeah, I'm probably have to go into flower to find out what is what in order to weed out the males at an early stage.
But at the moment they're still seedlings. Any idea how old they have to be before I can put them into flower to find out what is what?

I would guess they will be about half female and half male .. but with a sample of 20 .. u could have a deviation of three or four either way ...


out of fifty seeds I have grown .. I would guesstimate that thirty were female .. maybe I'm just lucky

My experience you should get a 50% ratio male to female. Slightly more males with certain species.

Two experienced people think about 50/50. This is promising.
What about when it comes to flowering early in order to weed out the males? What is the earliest I can do it?

U will see preflowers right after it gets to alternating nodes ... then u can cut lights for a few days (if u need to ) and see definite Pistils or stamens .. there are threads here for determining sex .. but I can't find one right now haha

I'm doing SOG, So I'm not growing till the alternating nodes stage.I will be flipping at 6".

I usually search for previous threads first, but I wasn't sure what words to use. "Determining sex" sounds apt though.

Oh .... haha well then u can tell me .. how soon after going under flowering lights they will show signs .. I've never put a seedling into flowering that soon

I did plant some seeds outside once in LATE Autumn and saw signs of sex within a month ... ..after the solstice .. they revegged

After browsing the threads I'm not convinced that the early flower and back to veg thing is a good idea. Not to mention that by the time they show signs in that flowering they'll be 6" anyway.
So fuck it, I'll just grow them all then weed them out when I flower at 6".
