I was sitting here smoking some so/so stuff that's the norm around here where I live. Having browsed the seedbanks many times, and seeing all the many marijuana strains there are out there, I was wondering exactly what it is I was smoking. You know the kind of stuff I mean: smashed together, full of seeds, smells like pencil shavings (if there's any smell at all), burns hot and makes you want to wretch with every toke. I'm wondering when it comes to "commercial" pot, what's the most common strain? What exactly is that crap I'm smoking?

Usually you're smoking poorly-handled compressed pre-kiefed weed, usually from a high yielder like BC Big Bud or Critical Mass. It would be great smoke if it wasn't so compressed and hadn't had 90% of the trichs knocked off to make hash.

Compressed, full of seeds, weak smell and harsh smoke... sounds like brickweed out of Mexico. I grew some seeds out on my first grow, way back when. Turned out to be a decent sativa, but I didn't know it wouldn't get to mature in NJ (where I lived at the time), before the frost. Had to pick it early. The high was much better than the bag it came from, even though I didn't know how to cure properly.

yea theres probably no name for it. i would say its just some back woods mexican stuff that has been cross pollinated for years and years and then not taken care of

I wonder if anyone's ever done any kind of research into the most common strains in the USA. I wonder if it would even be possible. I mean I'm sure the mexican cartels that grow alot of the stuff that comes into the country aren't going to seedbanks and ordering seeds. Or are they? And yes I'm sure it started off as some killer stuff until they bail it and compress it and smuggle it and store it in laundry detergent or whatever they do to get it around.

haha don't come to any conclusions just because you asked and we answered lol there are easily thousands if not millions of strains these days but in BC we would generalize that type as karky bud, or shwag. To be honest I wouldn't want to smoke prehistoric ganja either, mind you I bet the weed plants were a hundred feet tall!

with brickweed its not so much the strain that sucks but the methods of drying curing and compressing to get it over the border even then sometimes it can be stoney. i have some brickweed seeds i will grow at some point properly to see what there capable of i think it would produce good buds if given proper care. i have also heard brickweed potency is increasing they(the cartels) may have introduced new genetics to increase potency.

I've grown great weed from brick weed seeds and shitty weed too.

Of course "bag seed" is a pretty broad term. I'm lucky that I've gotten really good genetics from cannasuer bags...even true males. I have a WW that I got 13 seeds from along the stem of a +1once bud~9 females and 4 males. I got one seed from some long skinny sticky sativa buds i got cheap through my girlfriend ($$ tells me dealer was trying to get in my gf's pants LOL) that made everybody who smoked it laugh until they cried. That was a female and so, both lines go on, and I am happily high ever after.
