Arrow individual studies/laboratory studies on marijuana seeds and genetics
my question is... does the overall condition of a marijuana plant effect the genetic values passed down from a mother plant, into a seed/seedling?

lets say i treat a marijuana plant couple(male & female alike), given that they are... lets say northern lights... with bare minimal basic needs in order to mature into fertilization.

i know this is an exaggeration, but if its true with extreme conditions like this, it holds evidence towards optimal growth conditions having an effect towards genes passed in a positive way. will the seeds that are produced mature into the same strain of northern lights? or will it be under par in terms of next generation?

thats a tough question, and i dont have experience with it, i am a biochemistry major and am looking for personal/anecdotal experience that will help me understand.

Stress while your plant is making its seeds can cause mistakes or "mutations" in its DNA. No telling whether they would be good or bad but over time you would steadily build up mutations through out the inbreeding process. You might end up with some kind of genetic freak thats amazing but in most cases you would end up with lower vigor. It might work fine though.

so basically, it depends on how you grow your breed to keep it a good product? like 5 generations down the road, would i have noticed a drastic change in the plants or anything?

mutation wise or just breeding wise?

Breeding wise after 5 generations possibilities are basically endless, within reason of course. You could probably turn a 13 week sativa that tastes sour into a 7 week indica that tastes sweet.
Mutations wise, I honestly haven't any idea, I know some theory behind it but I have no idea on what type of time scale it happens. I think its mainly breeding that would have an effect on the plants even if you did get them the mutate. Usually plants the mutate don't grow well and lag behind, you might flower them or cut them but no one would breed with them because they already have negative mutations that hamper it. You would probably end up with something pretty damn similar to if they were grown and breed in optimal conditions though.
