Hi everyone. My first post here.
I seem to have something weird going on. I planted some home made seeds which are either 100% Purple Pine berry or a PPB mix (I had a Jumbo Grizzly male that may have jumped the fence) and one plant has autoflowered. Seeds were planted mid October and one plant flowered under 24 hour light and is now budded out...I dusted it with an early flowering male that's a cross of PPB and bag weed to try to keep the trait alive and get more seeds. Haven't sampled the bud yet so I don't know if it's same quality as the mom. Has anyone ever had a plant that's not supposed to be an autoflower do that? What might cause this? Thanks. |

The skanky little plant has made seeds. She never saw the dark, always under 24 hours of light. The seeds are small...some look viable. After a drying out time I'll germinate some in a month or two and see what happens. The buds are sticky and once the seeds were taken out not bad smoke when tested, but a laughably small yield. I'd love to stabilize the autoflower trait and then work on the yield. Might be mid summer by the time I know the results...if the seeds are viable.

I have 4 different versions of plants all "Purple Pine Berry" , all seeds came from same mother grown last summer outdoors. One is the skanky little autoflower mentioned above, the second is a deep green but otherwise normal looking plant with average sized leaves flowering nicely under 12/12, the third version is considerably larger and has large purpling fan leaves and is also flowering well under 12/12 lighting, it looks and acts like what I believe is typical of PPB. It's going to get chopped and consumed in about 2-3 weeks.
The last is one I think will be an "early flower", it seemed to start to autoflower under low light vegging conditions but is now growing vegatatively under 24/0 since I rearranged the lights and it now has a brighter spot in the vegging area. It's a little on the small side but is healthy. After taking a few clones this one will be flowered soon and it or it's clones will be infused with some pollen from the yet to be grown males I'm hoping I'll get from the skanky autoflower's seeds, if they germinate. Anybody have any idea on how many back crosses it might take before a trait like autoflowering is stabilized? Is autoflowering always an indication of Ruderalis or does it occur in Indica and Sativa too? Anyone know of other strains that might be tried in the mix to retain or create autoflower characteristics? I have some seedlings going now that are PPB (male) x Durban Poison (female) but I'll be real surprised if they are anything but an early flowering variety so backcrossing to those is probably not happening . I also have one AK-47 that I think is a girl...any thoughts on hitting one her future clones with pollen from the skanks progeny? I've heard there is an Autoflower AK-47 out there, just don't know how it was made... Any tips on germinating marginal looking seeds to increase germination odds? I'm hoping to get both a reliable autoflower and a reliable early flowering variety for outdoors in the Northeast. Some of last years PPB was ready by late August on 45th parallel, although most finished in Sept. Improving that would be a big boost. Thanks in advance for any help. |

Kief Chef - The yield seemed lower than advertised, but that is no surprise as most everything is. Part of my problem may have been I wasn't in an ideal spot outdoors last year. (not enough sun) . I liked the smoke enough to make some seeds and now have some going indoors, which should finish in a couple weeks. Last years outdoor flowering time was quick (under 50 days) . The purple coloring is there, just not on all the plants. I'm planning on this strain being a big part of 09 outside grow because it comes in early. Buds smell nice and get pretty sticky. I'll be happy to get 3-4 ounces per outdoor plant. Some ads say a pound per plant, I doubt it and would love to hear from anyone who has grown this strain if they even came close to a pound per plant. I believe PPB is derived from Texada Timewarp which is a big cashcrop in B.C. and something called Cream Sodica which I know nothing about. Got my seeds from HEMP DEPOT, but they seem to be out at the moment. This might be a good variety to cross with other stuff to bring in the harvest date for an outdoor grow.
