    Literature anyone recommend any?

    Check out “the Secret life of plants”, not exactly soil science but an interesting read. It was a big deal back in the 70’s. These plants are more intelligent than most people realize.

    Rockwool = root rot?

    “Once root rot is suspected, he immediately breaks everything down, sterilizes everything and cuts away any unhealthy looking roots” That’s what’s killing the plants, if there was root rot it never had a chance to kill anything

    Rockwool = root rot?

    Just throwing this out there, i started growing as a teen with my buddy and his dad. His Dad ran a small 3-4 plant dwc setup. We never controlled temps and let algae grow on rockwool cubes. Changing out water in buckets only happened when flipping. We would just top up the rest of the time. I...

    Rockwool = root rot?

    Those are pieces of rock your finding not eggs or bugs, perfectly normal for rockwool. I would recommend he monitor water temps and ensure the containers do not leak light. This is what will cause root rot 99% of the time. Root rot loves warm water. Your water level should be below the net...

    I went with the premixed rock dust blend from blackswallowsoil.com I checked with them and its an even mix of the 5 rock dusts posted above. They recommend 2 cups of this mix + 1 cup gypsum + 1 cup oyster shell flour per cuft. I just went with 4 cups of the blend and it worked out fine. Thanks...

    Soil mix too alkaline, 8.0!!!

    Honestly i think it comes down to this: ph testing a new mix is not very accurate. I had my mix test at 7.8ph. I decided to trust the recipe and everything went great. No ph issues showed on the plants and the yield was better than expected. The reality is your soil mix consists of multiple...
