Prerequisites for a DIY LED build?

Haha - one of my fans looks exactly like the photo Humanrob uploaded. Mine however only has two broken bits inside it. Zulu Smoker - you may want to consider building a simpler prototype first. Get some smaller cxa cobs, 3070 or even 3050s. Build something you could use for vegging and covers a...

Prerequisites for a DIY LED build?

YES, you can do this. I was in the exact same boat as you, not sure if I could pull it off. But honestly, now that I've done it, the physical assembly is not that tough. I used Cree cxa3070s, with cob holders and Arctic PLUS fans. The physical assembly required the following tools/skills (if you...

    Hops anyone?

Like someone else said, you're gonna need large poles, with guide wires. The plants grow up the wires, and are VERY heavy when flowering. I'm guessing at least 1/4" and maybe even 1/2" wire? those get HEAVY, running up to 15' or more. We have a lot of Hops farms in Central Valley of Oregon -...

    100x3w LED and grow question

My screen for the scrog is 4 feet by 2 and half. The lights cover a bigger area, but they start to drop off a tiny bit at the edges. I probably should have used reflectors, and like Michael Huntherz suggests, dimmable would have been smart too. But I started basic for my first build. I keep my...

    100x3w LED and grow question

Cool - I think you'll enjoy it then, given your background. I was going to buy a light from Area-51, but they were out of stock,. so I just took the plunge and copied from Gaius - now of course I want to build a second one, and get fancier. It's almost as addictive as growing the plants. :) If...

    100x3w LED and grow question

420PyRoS - if you're interested in LED and COB tech, surf the Indoor Grow and Do It Yourself forums. In the DIY one, Gaius has documented a basic build using CXA3070s and Meanwell drivers, active cooled via CPU fans, named Battlestar Ganjatica. The Indoor Grow thread is populated by a ton of...

30 day Veg vs 60 Day Veg Yeilds

My outdoor plants vegged for well over 60 days. Indicas flowered in 8-9 weeks, Sativas took a little longer. No way was it double the flowering time. Would make outdoor harvests almost impossible except for around the equatorial band.

    Any NHL fans in here?

Oh, I was extremely pissed at the time. There's been some nasty stuff in hockey - Green/Maki swinging sticks at each other, Clarke breaking Kharmalov's arm as just two examples - but running someone from behind and boarding them while they are into celebrating the GW goal was worse, because...

    Any NHL fans in here?

Yeah, that was a pretty cheap shot, and Turgeon was never really the same after that. At least the Isles seem to finally be moving in the right direction after a few decades of futility. Still lacking the depth to make a real run in the playoffs, but even competing for a spot is a change. They...

    too early to LST?

I have, I am trying to go without this time. When you top it shocks the plant and it takes a little time to recover - you'll note the vegetative growth stops or slows down for a couple of days. Not a big deal, I am just trying to see if I can fill my screen without topping this time. You want...

    Any NHL fans in here?

I remember watching one of those NYI vs. WSH, when Pat Lafontaine scored to clinch it. Man, just watching that was a test of endurance, I can only imagine how tired they were. Even though I'm in Oregon my family roots are east coast. So I have always been a Bruins fan. In '72, I adopted the...

    too early to LST?

I think you can LST at anytime, just want to take care not to snap the stem when they are that little. I'm generally LSTing clones, so I do it when there are 3-4 sets of opposing branches. I've got a couple now that are two weeks in soil and all roughly 4-6" above soil, spread out about a foot...

Why my cucumber look like this?

Most likely - pollination problems. Especially if it was excessively warm during the flowering period. Also, if you're adding manure late in the growth cycle, that can sometimes do stuff like this too, manure is high N, makes the plant want to veg growth. Just my thoughts.

    Acid burn? Mg cal def?

The first photo with the spots and yellowing looks like it could be Ca deficiency. That problem will generally start lower on the plant. You can google cannabis leaf deficiencies and find a great chart with leaves displaying the signs at assorted stages, and some close up photos that may make it...

Can cold weather hurt my girls?

Cannabis can handle a light frost, but heavy ones are going to kill it. Rain isn't going to help either. If it's going to be a lengthy rainy period and your humidity is high, that's going to make bud rot a concern. I just caught two small patches on mine, and removed it and harvested those two...

    Selling legally

I'd just go talk to them. I think there is going to be some level of commercial regulation and licensing for those sort of rec sales, but it's been a while since I read up on it. From the estimates in the Oregonian though, I think the state is going to be super-satuated with weed. Past years...

    Is this a calcium deficiency?

I _should_ be getting cal in my tap water though. I use a Berkey water purifier, it's not supposed to remove calcium and magnesium. Since I should already be getting it, I don't want to create a lockout situation by having too much. And I'm at a loss to think it's any sort of over-fertilizing...

    great value led bulbs

Yeah, I am not ready to buy those yet, just saw them for the first time and thought it was a cool idea. If they catch on, refine the design and the price drops, maybe someday it will be a more viable option than CFLs.

    great value led bulbs

I paid $23 for mine from mouser. Adding drivers, cpu coolers and holders and shipping, it worked out to around $62 per lamp. Plus frame and wiring supplies, it was still less than half what a commercial light would have cost.
