I once got a tray of clones from a guy I'd never dealt with before, and they weren't rooted/were suspiciously cheap. I was pissed to discover that about half had been cut mid-stem, but I let them go, and was really surprised when they all rooted, I didn't even think that was possible.

I've read they don't like root disturbance/transplanting either, so when I grew them I direct sowed and then thinned with scissors rather than pulling out the extras.

I haven't found one that doesn't work in soil. soil also has natural buffers so pH shouldn't be as much an issue as in an inert medium. you will want to start off at a lower rate but only because the soil will initially have some nutrient. With most soil by the time you flip your lights there...

I'm told that Safer's caterpillar killer works but can discolor the plants, and that Spinosad works as well. I'm not much of an outdoor guy (yet) so couldn't say from first hand experience.

I used to have a 6 foot tall san pedro in a 3 gallon pot, it was in there for probably 5 years, and grew each year. not sure what ever happened to that plant...

just change the water daily, keep them in a windowsill, tap water has worked fine for me, nothing added. It's convenient for a few but not really practical for a full blown sheet of cuts...

I've always boiled them. it stinks like shit but leaches excess nutrients and sterilizes at the same time. a turkey fryer outside works well.
