    HPS KILLER Grow Journal

In terms of light that claim seems quite reasonable to me, problem could be low canopy temps in such a large space. You probably won't have it warm enough (or too humid) with only cobs. Running a heater and/or a dehumidifier would tackle the symptoms, but I'd much rather ADD (instead of kill) a...

    Another Cree CXB3590 DIY thread

Wow, didn't expect your feeding to be so low. I am using bottom-fed coco airpots with ~1100-1300ppm FloraNova under ~1000 PPFD and they look very similar (DNA Super Lemon OG). Ok, enough hijacking ;)

    Bridgelux Vero 29 LED Test

Just find a generic 100W driver (around 30$) and wire the cobs in parallel. Or find 2 generic 50W drivers (around 15$). Generally, you will get higher driver efficiencies on higher powered drivers.

Has this been adressed before?: Which nutes at which EC do you give?

That retrofit method is not only cheap, it is also convenient and safe, for that floodlight even has IP67 rating. There is nothing to gain with quality chips in this case (well, I guess they will arrive a bit earlier). BTW, my 10W-730 are laid out for 1050 mA, whereas my 10W floodlights have...

Convinced me to make the switch

Maybe we get slightly offtopic. I use a single 100W pump for a 1m³/10m² aquaponic CHOP2 system. I was under impression in DWC you just need to floom. Would you tell us more about your buddy's RDWC? I ask because that system certainly does wonders for you if you hit 1,4 gpw with a 1,3 umol/w...

Convinced me to make the switch

Nice!, but one question: Is it usual in DWC to devote 20% of your lamp energy consumption to water movement? Seems very high to me.

There are 10W 730nm COBs on ebay that you can retrofit into those 10W Floodlights. It's just like the "flower initiator" but for around 20€. I'd use two so the light is distributed rather evenly.

    2 drivers 1 cob

Good topic! I knew it worked for the cheapo drivers because some of the readymade floodlights have 2 drivers wired in parallel (e.g. 2x 50W drivers on 1x generic 100W COB). Will it work for meanwell drivers as well, e.g. LPC-100-700?

I can verify that captainmorgan's 730 schedule (12/12 for 2 weeks, 13.5/11.5 for 4 weeks, 12/12 for 2-3 weeks with 730 for 10 minutes after lights-out) reduces the overall time significantly. 10 week strains finished in 9 weeks, 9 week strains were slightly overdue. Very low intensity was used...

    Arctic 11 plus without fan

Well, I now use (10) Arctic, one of which has failed but is still grilled by the V29 at 1050mA underneath. The others are kept cool by 5V, at differing RPM and noise levels though. I am blowing on it with the circulation fan, which puts the baseplate at roughly 40-70°. No visible light degration...

    Arctic 11 plus without fan

The Alpine is cheap for sure, but it is not really reliable. It only features fluid bearing and will most likely be the first part of a Bridgelux/Cree-Meanwell-Arctic combo to fail. Chances are quite high you will encounter an Arctic that has a rotational imbalance straight out of the box. I...

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

The worst that could happen is it won't light up because the driver goes into overvoltage protection mode. You might then dim down the current a wee bit on the -C1400. Else build a second light on a second driver with your single V29 or invest in another V29 and swap the -C1400 for a -C1050. I...

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

Supra claimed the driver will adjust the current a bit if the voltage is only a bit too high; he said his driver went to the full current when warmed up. If I had a -C1400 on hand, I would certainly try.

Pictures of your DIY lights - Post your pics!!!

@SomeGuy, super cool study! It should feature 50-100 PARW of highly efficient LEDs and a wee bit more sophistication on cooling, but I like the compact form very much.

    Vero18 and Vero29 Test Grow

We're effin up the topic, but since everyone does it everywhere I guess it's no big deal. When I had no paste (but haste) I used a quick and dirty mixture of babyoil and graphite powder which I believe is conducting very well. It even gave me that suction you attribute to the paste. To complete...

    Vero18 and Vero29 Test Grow

That claim in the optic shop is obviously false, but I guess we are used to false claims by commercial growlight manufacturers. I think it's a good way to start with a hybrid setup, that will likely help keeping the temperatures in the right place.

    Vero18 and Vero29 Test Grow

Sorry to disappoint you, but 500W of Vero cannot replace a 1000W HPS in terms of light output. The optic 500W actually is running (4) V29 with a combined efficiency of ~33%, so I'd say it's roundabout half the bulb's output. Besides, you could build that thing yourself for under 300.
