should I have a layer of hydroton on flood table?

No it won't cause problems, but it will light prune the roots and plants wont grow to full potential You can fill table with hydroton, and your roots will grow larger. However you will hate yourself when it comes time to clean after harvest Its a lot easier to cover the entire table panda...

    Jackpot or not?

Set it up, and work your magic. Can other better equipment get a seasoned grower an extra 5-10 percent, sure. Doe's it matter in your situation, not really. Does it matter in a seasoned growers situation, a little. - Jiji

    What timers to use

I like using honeywell digital timers. Too many times over the years power outages have made mechanical timers be off time. I've seen both fail. - Jiji

    humidity in room?..

Whats the ideal temp and humidity level for veg plants Theres so many variables theres probably no ideal. They do seem to do better above 50 percent humidity in veg. Too high humidity and you have to worry about mold in your grow spot, and PM. Usually thats above 70 percent. Bunch of...

    humidity in room?..

If you have that small of a grow in a home, and its that cold outside, the RH is probably low in your home. Just recirculate air. 65 is on the high side depending on stage of plants, and think about how RH behaves. If lights turn off and temp drops, RH will jump up a lot. - Jiji

    Newbie first dwc

They are cheap, and you know what you're getting. I mix my own but you can also buy pre-mixed. My mix is pretty close to a general tomato recipe. Theres no perfect recipe or ppm for different all strains, so a tomato recipe is a really good starting place. For RDWC I would pre-mix them dry...

    Newbie first dwc

Its pretty simple really. Keep out light from your res, try to keep the temps under 70f....there are work arounds and some people have no problems with higher temps etc. But under 70 is just easier Keep junk out of your res. No snake oil concoctions, weeklyish changeouts on res, use a...

DIY flood tables and grow trays

Not really....some people swear by it for rdwc on another forum. I pretty much just used either one or the other. Coco is going to retain more water than hydroton..... Well, you can lower the table to what ever height you need as long as its higher than the res. I would reclaim in a setup...

DIY flood tables and grow trays

Well you picked the right setup. If your coco becomes over-saturated you can always mix it with perlite, or clay pellets (chow mix.) - Jiji

DIY flood tables and grow trays

Net pots were rigid plastic. I'm just saying if your flooding the table with smart pots the cocco will be super saturated and move around a lot. Part of the fun is experimenting, I'm only making suggestions. If I were using cocco in a flood table, I wouldn't flood it, I'd use a top feed...

DIY flood tables and grow trays

I'd use something rigid, so not smart pots. I used a bunch of 8 inch net pots designed for 5 gallon bucket lids. They have a large rim giving you a bunch of options. - Jiji

DIY flood tables and grow trays

Well you don't want light hitting the res. But what I meant was you don't want light hitting the roots. The plant will still grow either way, its just better that the lights don't hit the root zone, so It doesn't hinder the roots growth. - Jiji

DIY flood tables and grow trays

I used to grow using tables. They can be cool if you get around the caveats. Basically no light should hit down below. I've seen some pretty cool encapsulating ideas using poly. - Jiji

    Big Time Products

fatman was a weird guy.........He sounded really knowledgeable most of the time, but sometimes he would be way off the mark......for instance micronutrients. Like way off. http://scienceinhydroponics.com/ Hydrobuddy is a great tool to use on that site. Also if you go through and read all the...

    Big Time Products

I'm talking about the target marketing of the cartoony labels. You know, appealing to 20-30 year olds. Advance nutrients is better at this. Big time rinse .......come on....I'm guessing some sort of "flushing agent" lol No I haven't tried them. I would recommend any agricultural grade...
