When and How to harvest romaine??

So I just took 1 large leaf, and 1 small leaf. Old/Young. Both are really bitter. I can only attribute this to water temps. That being said, I got them down to a (measly) 74-75*. I know it's not ideal, but it's a good bit lower than before. What causes bitterness?

When and How to harvest romaine??

Here are some pics of my plant. Do I just clip close to the stalk, or further up the leaves? Is it even ready?

When and How to harvest romaine??

I had the plant growing for some time, it's probably 6 or so weeks in but 2 of those my res temps were WAY too hot so no growth happened and the roots went to hell. I got things in control and for about a week now they have been taking off. White roots in a mass amount. Can someone post a...

I've learned my lesson. (Newb info given...)

When people say to start small, it's not because they don't want another grower in the area or don't want your producing good products, it's because this shit takes planning you have not done. I bought a 400 hps/mh set up from HTG. No cool tube. I also bought what else I needed, so I...

14+ hour light cycle on pepper plants prevent flowering?

Tomatoes don't care...peppers i'm not sure of. I ran 18/6 on my tomatoes and had a massive plant with veggies. So big I tossed it because it wasn't manageable.

Res Temps NEED to come down!

"If when using bottles, the roots come in contact with the ice cold bottles...will it damage the root system of the plant? I'd think it would, but i'm thinking there is some sort of physics that takes place and makes the answer no." Can someone comment on this?

    pH meter vs. pH drops

I believe I can do the 4.01 test as well but i'm lacking a local hydro shop of any sort (aquarium shop may have this) and shipping is atleast a week...sometimes 2 out. I went with the meter, if anyone wonders. I will see what happens. This round of lettuce and peppers (seperate tubs) are all but...

    pH meter vs. pH drops

Not a soul? Hm. I'm thinking the meter is correct, but who am I to judge with no basis at all on why it would be above the drops.

    Water Chilling

I could see (possibly) running this in a 5 gallon igloo sports drink cooler filled with ice, run maybe 2 or 3 reservoirs to it via T'd lines and getting down around 60 degrees easily with a weekly addition of ice. Maybe even fill with water, drop in a milk jug of ice or a few 20 oz. bottles to...

Res Temps NEED to come down!

Seems like a cooler is still going to heat up over a period of time, a week being plenty. I can't drop 20 bucks on a cooler...well 60-80 or 3 or 4. I was hoping I could manage to come away with a soution that will at least get me at 76 or so. I just would like to be out of the mid 80's lol. I...

    pH meter vs. pH drops

They are .8-1 away from each other and I don't know who to trust! It's like one of your best friends telling you the girl at the bar is a 10 and your other best friend telling you shes only a 6. These type of things need to be clear! LOL On a serious note, it was calibrated in GH 7.0...

    Water Chilling

Why no copper? I've seen this a couple times now. Home Brewers have been using copper for a LONG time now with no ill effects. I disagree with this completely to be honest, copper is a great material for using in building a chiller unless something odd happens when the nutrient solution hits it...

Res Temps NEED to come down!

Yah, I can't spend 250 bucks on a chiller right now. I am wondering if their is a way to convert over to an ebb/flow somehow and block my reservoir from the light off in the corner somewhere. Only other option is going to T5 but i'd like to keep my MH/HPS setup. Hmmmmm

Res Temps NEED to come down!

I've searched, read, and tried what I have found online and can't seem to find my way to success, sadly. I have 4 gallon nutrient solution tubs (2) that I need to chill somehow. Each tub is 10 gallons, but I only use 4 gallons of solution. I have a 16oz frozen bottle in each and can't stay...

    Stelthy's 600W Hps Project! (New-Cab)

Had I been McGyver myself and thought things through, a 5 gallon bucket (for me) holding 4 gallons of nutrients and an aquarium pump can manage the same process. Thanks for the tip. I'll put it to good use next go round.
