Default H.R. 5843: Removing Federal Penalties for Marijauana Use
Hey all,

Just wanted to recommend that everyone contact your US Representative and ask them to cosponsor H.R. 5843. Basically it would stop the DEA from being able to raid anyone who has been allowed by their state to use marijuana. You can find more information here.

This is a good first step towards ending the prohibition. Let's make our voice heard!

PM me if you want a copy of the letter I sent to my US Rep

I agree but, on an optimistic note, NORML's founder and legal director Keith Stroup helped write this law with the sponsor's (Barney Frank) staff. That might help give it a little more support as NORML seems to have quite a few people behind them. Also, according to NORML, it's the first cannabis decriminalization measure introduced in Congress in 24 years.

OK, this is a double post. But, here!

Mr. Mockingbird
Saint Louis, MO

Dear Mr. Mockingbird:

This will let you know I received your recent Email message regarding HR 5843, The Personal Use of marijuana by Responsible Adults Act.

I appreciate your contacting me to express your interest in this legislation. I share the views you expressed. I believe that federal criminal penalties for the possession and not-for-profit transfer of small amounts of marijuana should be eliminated. I am cosponsoring this legislation and I will do everything I can to represent your interests on this issue in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Thank you for your correspondence. I hope you will continue to share your thoughts on the vital issues facing Congress.

Sincerely,

Wm. Lacy Clay
Member of Congress
