I wouldn't worry too much about China. Look how they've polluted their land in just two decades. Give them two more decades at this rate of pollution and China will be uninhabitable, by humans or pandas. The world's got plenty of humans, so if we lose the ones who commit suicide by pollution, not a big deal. I'll miss the pandas though.

Yeah and if that new dam breaks because of graft, bribery, etc, which is rampant in China, and causes poor construction techniques, or inferior materials because some inspector took a few thousand bucks the population will decrease significantly.

When will figure out that when they keep shipping jobs out of this country (all in the name of Free Trade) who is going to buy all the cheap shit when there are no jobs left.

So to answer your question, Yes. If one is going to sink us, then we sink them with us.

Let's face it Vi, your logic on the situation makes little sence as well.
Sure, let's level the playing field, but not by charging high tariffs on Chinese goods. All that will do is raise prices on hard working Americans, i.e., poke a hole in our end of the boat. There's a better way, Dank. We have the second highest corporate taxes on the planet. Let's reduce those taxes to at least an average of what other countries charge their corporations. That would eliminate one huge incentive our corporations have now to move their companies off shore.

A tariff is a tax that is filtered down to the end consumer.

Vi You failed to answer my thoughts on Ayn Rand and doing business with a communist country like China.

Now how about this thought, if you take your manufacturing business out side of the US, then you don't do business here.

Ayn Rand would relish the budding capitalism breaking out all over China. She would recognize, of course, that China under Mao was a totalitarian slave state, exactly what she railed against. But, if she traveled to Beijing today and saw the modern sky scrapers, all the Rolls Royce's, Mercedes' and the expensive BMW's traveling on the streets, and observed the rapidly rising living standards taking place, I think she would be real pleased that her belief in capitalism is being justified so strongly. I also believe that she would look toward the leader's palace and silently say to herself: "Its only a matter of time ... only a matter of time. And the time is sooner than you think."

Ayn Rand would be very pleased indeed because her belief in the greatness of Man's mind would be on display every where she went.

As to your second question above ... Again, give businesses a real incentive to STAY in the country. Not by passing onerous laws like you suggested above, but allow them more freedom to operate here .... and with vastly lower taxes.

The point is Dank ... capitalism, wealth and freedom are breaking out in democratic countries all over the world ... and even in some that are not so democratic, like China.

A VERY good friend of mine was born in Romania and lived there until she was able to escape at the age of twenty-one. She just returned from a three week trip to the old country. Her comment upon her return? "The new 'America' can be found in Eastern Europe."

And you want to do exactly what, Dank? To place America in a rapid march backward with more regulation, higher taxes and a more intrusive government? If so ... please explain how we will continue to compete with these other countries in the global marketplace. Thanks ...

for now.

eastern europe is new to the whole capitalist game and still learning the tricks of the trade. give them some time and the proper resources and they might very well surpass us as we decline into a socialist slumber. while they are seeking ways to increase the power of the private sector, we are attempting to punish success and betraying the concepts of free enterprise that have always been a cornerstone of the rise of american business.
