I you actually go to the original study, and not the express UK news article, what you will find is that a mathematician says that solar activity will be at a minimum akin to the Maunder Minimum. It has to do with the 11 year cycle of sunspot activity which is well known by climate scientists and built into climate models. During the Maunder Minimum, the Thames froze over a couple times. So when a mathematician said that she analyzed the cycles of historical sun spot activity and said it will be at a minimum such as during the Maunder Minimum (when the Thames froze), some reporters got together and said "scientists conclude mini-ice-age is coming".

It's just ridiculous how people will spin the findings of experts into something they can use for political ends. It isn't completely unlike the way you have a socialist in your sig.

Already had that conversation many times. The reality is that even in the 1960s and 70s, the scientific consensus was global warming. This idea that scientists used to have a consensus of global cooling is a myth made up by conservatives

The first paper published on warming was in 1938
