You are correct about California.Mexico would not sell it at any price, and the US needed it to secure western coastal harbor access.Part of understanding how things were at that time you have to remember that when the war was going on, Mexico had only been a sovereign nation for about 24 years. It's government wasn't very stable and there weren't near enough Mexican citizens to develop and claim that land they had just recently won from Spain. The states we received after Mexico surrendered, we payed 15,000.000 dollars for and there weren't hardly any Mexicans living in those areas nor were there any roads or means to get there for Mexicans. And when we did get these lands, we granted every Mexican who happened to be living in theses areas American citizenship and let them live in peace.

My point is, We didn't steal anything. We won a war.To the victors go the spoils. Some American commanders actually wanted to take over Mexico and everything else all the way down to Brazil thinking it would be taken by SOMEBODY.I would say Mexico got off lightly.

You don't invite another country to move into Texas and then try to kill them when you change your mind.Especially when you are dealing with the US.

As far as slavery goes, I wish we never brought slaves to this country. It was our ancestors that made the money off them, now we are just stuck with them.....Lincoln should have sent them back to where they came from. But that's another thread entirely.
If he is from Mexico, I don't think he just has history wrong. You have to understand that in Mexico they teach you in school their own version of events which differs from ours. In the mind of your average Mexican, the US does everything wrong and everything is our fault.

When ever in Mexico, never mention the Oregon Purchase. Unless you want your ass kicked.

I haven't seen a single argument that beats mines, you are an empire and nothing else, but you won't change your opinion I understand, you are taught the opposite, you americans paladins of freedom, had the right to claim those lands only because you settled there, despite it was from the indians, mexicans or whoever else, and we the evil mexicans killed them all so you went to war and so and so...

In the 1980's and early 1990's the going rate for a carpenter started at $13.00 an hour. Now it is hard for a master carpenter to make over $8.50 an hour. ( a trip to Home Depot will prove this)
Oil Drilling rigs is one of the more dangerous jobs going in the US, due to the danger the rate of pay is high, (starting wage is about $19.05 an hour) But the rate of pay should be higher. The reason the wages aren't high is because the oil drilling companies play the "if you don't like it, there are plenty of Mexicans who would be happy to have your job.

I have nothing against Mexican people or any other race, I just want them to come here legally and assimilate to the American ways.
Besides, Mexican immigration laws are a lot tougher than ours, we just want to make our as tough as the Mexican immigration laws.
I know, but I'll repeat for th n-th time, I'm not talking about illegals

however, an idea comes to my mind, if there is free trade, free flow of labour force would be a good idea, you want globalization? there is

I'm no fan of our current government or the government that fought Mexico in the Mexican-American war. Of course the government of my ancestors, the Confederacy, was beaten into submission by that same government. At the same time, wars are fought and there will be a loser. I don't think you should be worried about a sparsely populated territory that your ancestors lost over 150 years ago. I can assure you America has done much more with that land than Mexico would've ever done.
