Navy seal killed at gun range along with another person

(CNN) -- A former Navy SEAL who said his 150-plus sniper kills prompted Iraqi insurgents to place a bounty on his head was fatally shot at a Texas gun range, authorities said.
Chris Kyle, 38, was one of two men killed Saturday afternoon in Glen Rose, southwest of Fort Worth, the Texas Department of Public Safety said. Chad Littlefield, 35, was also shot to death.



If only people were allowed to carry guns this wouldnt of happened

Thats a real shame... Condolences to his family...

Incidently a couple of years back two gentlemen attempted to rob/carjack him while he was filling up his truck - Here's what went down;

Chris was minding his own business, fueling his pickup truck at a gas station, when he found himself at gunpoint. Two men holding pistols demanded his truck. Law enforcement will usually advise you to give in to the criminal in a situation like this. And that’s good advice. But Chris took another route.

Very calmly and coolly, he sized up which of the men was handling his pistol more comfortably. He put his hands up and told them he was going to reach into the truck to get his keys. Then his hand went under his coat. From a waistband holster, he pulled his Colt 1911. Swinging the pistol under his left armpit, he gave each robber two .45 caliber Hydra-Shock hollow-points to the chest.

By the time the cops responded to the 911 call from the terrified lady who had locked herself in a car behind Chris’s truck, the matter was settled. Elapsed time: about ten seconds. The service station’s security cameras caught the whole thing

It's alledged the shooter was a Marine Vet. whom Kyle was helping with PTSD along with a couple of other vets. For some reason this particular bloke just snapped and killed Kyle & his mate.

Can't stress the dangers of giving people suffering from PTSD any type of SSRI's. Veterans Dept. really need to get their act together and start looking after these blokes and get them the treatment they need.

edit - if the US government can spend the money training them, paying them and everything else that goes with it, they can spend the money to look after them when they come back from deployments

AMEN!

I'd add to this that if we are going to send our kids into harm's way, those of us who sit home in comfort should have to sacrifice as well and pay for the damn war rather than bankrupt our nation. Maybe if hit everyone the public would less apt to support our horrendous foreign policy and love of killing people on the other side of the globe!

I respect our brothers and sisters who fight for us....My question is how did anyone know of his 150 sniper kills and was he telling people about it.It is very unlike a Seal to tell of such stories.Something doesnt smell right.

A draft would only come into play if there were not enough volunteers. The fact that there are volunteers is why we don't need a draft. It is also why we don't "send" anyone, they volunteer.

The irony - it reminds me of a quote by an unnamed US major during the Vietnam war. "We had to destroy the village in order to save it" he said. Gotta love that cold war mentality.

Yes, technically our soldiers volunteer. But if we looked at their motivations for doing so, we'd see it stems from our social woes, lack of opportunity, huge expense of higher education, etc. Just because they signed up and have to follow orders doesn't make it right to put them in harm's way, doesn't make it right to force them to kill often innocent people, and especially doesn't make it right to try to fuck them when they get home. Dubya went and started two wars on the national credit card and at the same time cut their benefits. If these volunteers are truly protecting all of us with these wars, then we all owe it to them to take care of them when they come home.

For those in the national guard
most of them joined for the job, education and retirement benefits. And most of them believed they would never be sent to war.

Don't forget SEALs of all kinds White, Grey & Black understand they will deployed for long periods regardless of if the US engaged in a war or not. It's not as if they don't know this when they sign up. After going through something like BUDs you better believe they're not the kind of guys you wanna leave on the bench, so to speak...

No one joins the seals until well after they have joined the Navy.
There are no SEAL recruiters on the streets.
I was Invited to look at a film presentation when I got out of boot camp in 82. Never heard of these guys. Thought I was a pretty bad ass motherfucker. After watching the film which was about EOD/BUDS training. I no longer thought I was a bad ass motherfucker. Didnt even think about trying out, didnt think I could cut it

Not all, there are examples of guys attending and successfully completing BUDS right out of basic. I would suspect that naval recruitment numbers have risen in the last couple of years due to all the news coverage surrounding the SEALs.
