| | The newsweek article makes some good points HOWEVER... free? guess again. Or is OK to grow pot in the US now? Free to say what we want? yeah right - freedom of speech provided it is in a "free speech" zone. and if you utter the wrong word or phrase during a fight - oopsie - hate crime time.
This country has some very real, very serious problems that need to be addressed. We can be grateful for our bounty and still try to improve our country. In fact, it is not only right - it is our duty.
Here is the thing - yes we have a lot of creature comforts to be grateful for and the media has done a tremendous job turning us into zombie-like consumers. Keep the level of unhappiness high so we buy to fill a void. this is not a good situation and can not be sustained forever.
I agree the media shoulders the lion's share of responsibility though we, the citizenry are ultimately to blame. Unfortunately, the founders could not foresee the media becoming the 4th branch of government so no checks or balances was put in place. And the media cloaks itself in the 1st amendment which makes it nearly untouchable.
sad state of affairs that will probably require great heartache, bloodshed and sacrifice to rectify and i doubt that will happen until the TV no longer works and our bellies are empty.
in the meanwhile, we can continue to enjoy our comfort and convenience and still fight to regain our lost liberties. |

| | The "regular" media is losing its market share and will, within a few years, be irrelevant. The Internet and conservative talk radio are slowly putting the L.A., and NY Times out of business. Advertising revenue for newspapers, their life blood, is dwindling fast. CBS, NBC, ABC and other TV outlets are falling out of favor as well. They are becoming suppliers of porno-lite. Cable news programs with a conservative bent are taking over. Vi

Vi | As far as I'm concerned this is good news, the faster the major media is marginalized and discredited the better. |

| | Americans aren't so much dissatisfied with the American way of life as they are with the corruption in government and the extreme difference in ownership of the country from the workers to the elites. Yes we have many wonderful things to give thanks about, but there are still 60 million people without health insurance and another 120 million that are under insured. There are children that go to bed in cardboard boxes at night on the streets of our inner city sewers, hungry. There are children contracting cancer from the waste of corporations, there are millions of workers that have lost their 20.00 an hr. jobs and are lucky to find one that pays 1/3 that much. let alone the loss of benefits. Yes there are plenty of things to give thanks about, especially if you are in the top 10% of the income bracket. But not let us forget those on the bottom who struggle every day to get groceries and put a roof over the heads of their families, the 1 million incarcerated felons that are there for drugs (the highest % per capita in the world) the never ending wars that fuel the living standards of the elites. Yes we fortunate "70" % home owners, I believe this to be an erroneous figure, and in all actuality, the banks own 99.999% of these homes anyway, if you don't believe it, just look at all the foreclosures. Life is just wonderful looking through the rose coloted glasses the wealthy wear, but take a stroll down the center of any large city and see what awaits you there

| | exactly why capitalism is so important, the consumers get rid of the shitty and embrace the new that they like. creating a huge diversity and infinite competition, giving us a variety of news which in turn gives us a less narrow or slanted view of whats really going on. Notice CNN has been the one crashing the hardest over the past years? seems consumers can spot biased reporting from a mile away, thank god for fox news and how it came out as a competitor of CNN, we always need competition or the greedy little meat whistles will begin to squeeze off your air supply. this is the main reason why government run health care will be an Universal disaster to the country, what you need is competing providers not a lazy bureaucratic government run inefficient money wasting shitty service health care. fuck well i take that back look how smoothly run the DMV is

| | I totally agree up until half way through, I dont know where you people are living but bush has made my life terrible and more broke then it was before. hes only done one or two good things as far as I'm concerned and neither of them are mentioned. since he has come into office gas prices went from 1.80 to 3.45, I have to pay 40 fucking bucks a day on gas, and I dont even go anywear man!!!!
besides he pretty much let 9/11 happen, I was there, it was terrible. and all the info we have now just makes it all the worse. so hes kept us from being attacked again? or was the whole thing a government ploy? watch the videos man!!!!
our army now is fortunately a volunteer only rmy. byt the volunteers are only 18, man I was 18 only a few months ago!!! and I didnt know shit, still dont. and you expect us to be able to make a decision like that, young people are stupid and easily tricked. look at all the army propaganda that we are exposed to litteraly dozens of times a day, " join the army and you can go to space!!!!" " join the army and fly 10 million dollar ships" these are actual fucking comercials people!!! join the army reserve!!! thats a good one, you know how many friends I have that joined the reserve being promised they wouldnt ever be called upon, than two weeks later their in iraq with M16 on there back!!!! These kids have no buisness being there!!! or having wepons!!! you ever meet an 18 year old? there dumb man!!! there crazy!!! so lets give them free reign over another country and give them guns and grenades itll be fun!!!
we all know in 70 years we will be alies with these countries and they will all be saying why did we do it? we killed and lost thousands of good people, for what? its happen time and time again, since the start of wars, revolutionary war, civil war, both world wars, vietnam war. and its going to happen again, and all be a forgoten mistake. |
