i reckon i read someplace they still use UV to sterilize recycled water. no clue where i read it, just a foggy recall of the device which was a strong UV light shining on an acrylic tube where the water circulates through the UV bath before being pumped to the potable tanks.

I'd be willing to bet that silver is a good bit more than 15x the value of chlorine. I doubt it would be as useful on earth, where there is no shortage of chlorine. Seeing as I haven't heard of any huge bouts of disease from drinking water. I'd say chlorine is getting the job done just fine. It's great for many applications, I'm sure. I just have yet to see a real solid point to changing from the current system.

Chloramines are much more stable than chlorine, and therefore less likely to produce hazardous byproducts than chlorine.

actually i think he meant that with silver ions you need 1/15th the amount of chlorine to do the job.
