Would it be too far in saying that no one is allowed to make more than 1 Million dollars a year?

Like I know the rich work hard, but is a pay worth more than a million per year really worth that?

Our system is setup that way so that people can make over a million a year, so cant we change the system so a million is the cap?

Nope you would destroy the country over night. The reason we have it so good right now is because of how are system is setup, and when I say "good" I mean even the poor is this country are fat. We live a fairy tell to most other nations, I think anyone that bitches about how bad poor people have it should be required to take their next vacation to a 3rd world country. If you limit wealth in this country, people will leave taking their money with them and crippling us.

Put a $1Million cap on salary? The super rich don't get salaries, it won't affect them one bit.

The easiest way to put a cap on income would be to say that the marginal tax rate above $1MM would be 100%. Sure the wealthy would fight tooth an nail against it, but I doubt it would result in an end to our civilization in of itself. The biggest problem would be that by creating a system in which a single entity could take all of your income at a certain point, you have created a slippery slope to where the ceiling of permitted income could change-- perhaps to $100k or $50k. It also would take away all incentive for our government to controll costs.

It is not necessary to put such a drastic change to fix all of our nation's cash flow issues. Simply eliminating many tax exemptions, including capital gains, could correct our impalance.

You are also hinting that there may be too much in the way of a gap between richest and poorest-- with which I totally agree. Several approches at evaluating income distribution demonstrate how asymetrical incomes are in the US. It is perhaps the biggest threat to our economy and democratic process I know of. Fixing the problem is trickly. It's hard to cure the disease without killing the patient.

Well thought out post, even if I don't fully agree. It's nice to see little left leaning intellect on the board.

Actually I was never given anything, my father was raised in a house that had a dirt floor and an outhouse. He picked cotton until he was 18, and then joined the military during Vietnam, my grandfather fought in WW2. As you can imagine, I was raised in an environment where excuses didn't cut it. I worked steady from about 10 years old, I have enough chores to do after school that all I had time for was dinner, homework and bed. My first real job was working for a subcontractor of PLDT we worked in SE asia setting up DSLAM's and RBack routers for DSL networks. I lived in the Philippines for 3 years. As much as you think Detroit was 3rd world, you don't have a grasp until you see the young and elderly sitting on the side of the road two heartbeats from death of starvation and malnutrition. The stink of wet-markets that sale unrefrigerated meats, infested with flies and ripe for infestation. If you drink the water from tap your guaranteed a trip to the hospital. It's been 9 years last time I was there, I still bothers me knowing that the kids that I shared a smile with and bought food for, are probably dead now.

That's right - "the greatest country on EARTH", "the land of opportunity", the richest, the bestest, the most wonderful, God Bless America, Home of the Free! Our best years are ahead, shining city on a hill, exception to all other countries......

But limit my income and I will find somewhere else in a hot minute.

to be honest its kind of a novel idea but it presents a lot of problems.

first a million dollars is chump change for running quite a few different businesses, So you are going to have to say "Well it will be personal income only"...well then you are going to have people cheat, you are going to fuel the black market, create criminals, and its going to cause a lot of problems. Then what will be done with the overages? Given to the government so they can throw it into a black hole? pfft right....

Sorry this idea is just silly and childish, but I commend you for it, aside from jealousy factor, I think you mean well..but this is just saying hey lets throw everything away and give it to the mafias, cartels, gangs and what have you. It is not giving it to the people, its stealing.

So when the rich people can't make more than $1 million each, what happens to all the money above that number? Redistributed to the poor? That surely won't happen. Government will use the money to grow itself into an ever larger behemoth.
