the only part that wasn't struck down was the part that benefits the private prisons that the bill's author and the state's governor have close ties with.

I'm curious to see how it works. I would guess a lot of Americans will be asked if they are American and be annoyed about it, maybe even say it is discriminatory. If Arizona thinks it is necessary, and the scotus agrees, then it should be law. Hopefully this wasn't purely a partisan issue, I'm sure there will be some partisan talking points. I can see Obama gaining votes over some of the butt hurt this will cause kind of from an ACLU sort standpoint.
