it may be better in some respects, but it's not perfect. I will try to elaborate better later on after this thread turns into the shitfest that is bound to happen.

For the record however

As long as you keep tossing war mongering assholes into office, tax and spend is a better policy than the spend and spend one we have now, however.

Let's try to keep the discussion on the topic of the Fair Tax. No reason for personal attacks in this thread at all.

After reading and studying Boortz's book "The Fair Tax" over the past two weeks, I see NO negatives at all. None ... unless, of course, one has an imbedded interest in the present system.

I read the first book by John Linder and Neal Boortz. That system could revolutionize our economy. I doubt it will ever happen under the current political landscape, but I will support it. Mike Huckabee is the only candidate to embrace it. McCain hasn't said no.

Some people can't get past the 23% sales tax, they simply don't understand the tax. But the true opponents are those that prefer the status quo because under it, economic power is passed through the government and back to their constituents. A system which punishes initiative.

Proponents answer that economic power now in the hands of the government would shift back to the taxpayers deciding the size of their own tax bill. A system which encourages initiative.

^^^ Excellent response! ^^^

One of the things I like best about the Fair Tax is that it will make our businesses more competitive with foreign businesses. Also, foreign corporations will be clamoring to build plants in this country to escape their country's onerous tax regulations. All of this will create jobs in this country instead of our corporations out sourcing our jobs.

Also, the trillions of U.S. dollars that are "resting" in off-shore bank accounts in an attempt to escape our rediculous tax laws will come back into the country to be used for capital expenditures here.

Without an "income" tax on capital gains, production, and death, the American economy would be improved beyond anyone's expectations.

Sigh, Hair brained ideas to avoid paying income taxes.... The Poor lose and the elderly retired lose big time with the So-Called "Fair Tax". The current tax system is less enslaving than "Fair Tax" system.
BTW there is at least one link from a conservative source.

There is a balancing act when it comes to taxation, laws and policies; on the one hand you have economic prosperity, on the other, moral and social justice. The only way to raise one is by pushing down on the other. The only just way to tax people is the old fashioned way; take more from the rich and less from the poor, it's as simple as that. Viredd, you talk about businesses being more competitive with foreign ones; competitive is a euphemism for exploitation. America is already the most powerful nation in the world, why are you so concerned about its economy. I'd love to see America fall on its knees, and feel the pain that its foreign policies have caused.

Dank ...

I can only assume that because you've so graciously taken the time to respond to the post, that you've also taken the time to read the links I provided and that you've read Boortz's book. With that said, you should know that I've studied the text of both the links and Boortz's book. I've found the answer to your "The Poor Lose" comment and I was wondering how you missed it, if you did. So please be succinct in your comments and tell us WHY the poor and the elderly would "lose big time with the Fair Tax."

Thanks for your time.

You remind me of the story about the American business man who was in a rowboat with the Japanese business man. The Japanese man decided to punish the American man by raising the tariff on American-grown rice, in effect, poking a hole in the bottom of his end of the rowboat. In retaliation, the American businessman raised the tariff on imported Japanese rice, in effect poking a hole in his end of the rowboat as well.

As ccodiane said ... sink America and you will sink with her.
