It not a mystery. The Greek astomomers knew of the cycle where we align winter soltistice to the center of the Milky Way, not very often.

I don't think the universe is going to oblige us by fulfilling misinterpreted prophecies based on a culture which believed ripping the heart out of a living human would bring rain or good fortune.
hehe, out of something like 6000 counts (I made that up but its simillar) of mayan historical recordings, there is only 1 or 2 mentions of the date 2012. And it refers to an end of an era, and the beginning of a new.
