about the americans driving huge cars...drive around for a few weeks on american roads and see how safe you feel in a go-kart. americans in general view economy cars as chintzy perilous tin boxes that will get smashed to pieces by a mack truck and all the other enormous vehicles on the road. whether or not this is true is beside the point. it's the way we feel, although the economy is starting to get people into more economical cars. also not every american feels this way but a great deal of us do. i also agree with the guy who said the interiors of american cars are sad and cheap feeling, but i'll still take a big fat nasty buick over a vw any day.

i drive a 3.8L engine with 6 cylinders. at the time, i was being economical because i wanted the v8. i want my car to go vroom, not make a high pitched whine. every time i see a vw i sing a circus tune in my head and picture a bunch of clowns pouring out.

edit: and socialism is bad. lol
    back to the thread...
Did the Lord bistow you with such a small manhood that you need a 3.8L V6?

    Aww bless...
Lol. No i just don't care for go karts that will be crushed to dust if i get bumped by some douche in a hummer. Also when i saw it on the lot i was in love and it hardly had any miles on it despite being 8 years old. Grannymobiles ftw. Whitewalls are sexy.

@totalhead VW's are some of the best built and safest cars in europe admittedly against a douche in a hummer its a losing fight but isnt getting a big truck to "protect" yourself while endangering the rest of the driving world a douche move in itself?

it does amuse me how you guys bring the big engines and trucks upon yourselves then bitch about it being your governments fault. where is this personal responsibility you guys harp on about so much?

for the record i have an 18 yearold 1.3l VW golf that i picked up for £400 with less than 40k on the clock

i don't know where you live, but here i have snow in the winter, and i also need to tow things great distances from time to time, and my 3.8l engine is still in a sedan, NOT a truck. it's very easy to tout the safety of tiny cars when you are sharing the road with other tiny cars. the other day i learned what a lorry (sp?) is and i literally thought, "how cute!"

it's also easy to say americans should be driving smaller cars when you come from a country where cars have ALWAYS been smaller. you don't just go from a buick le sabre to a vw bug overnight. it's absurd to expect as much. the fact is that this fuel thing is brand new to america, and it's not in our culture to rave about cars with LESS horsepower. it's like trying to sell bbq beef in india. it just doesn't work.

also, many of the countries to whom we are being compared have almost no distance to haul people and goods. america is a very spread out place, and we don't have near the public transportation system as most of europe. you all have taxes to DISCOURAGE driving, and we have lower taxes to ENCOURAGE it. that's where the "government intervention" comes in. in america, driving=freedom.

how big is your sedan if you consider the VW pictured by nodrama to be a toy car?

LOL @ america only place with snow
LOL @ lorries are "cute" you think america only is place with size difference on the roads? ever been in a mini next to a 40ton "lorry"?
LOL @ its unreasonable for americans to think about smaller cars
LOL @ america being only place where people need to travel
LMFAO @ america being the place for driving freedom
ROTFLMAO @ all those excuses combined with the widespread belief that its the government stopping people driving efficiently

I'd like to see that 80 mpg VW get you to work on time through a foot of snow and freezing rain up and down hills.

And those lorries sure are cute lol. Are they Japanese? Looks like a cross between a uhaul and bread truck. My boss' Kenworth would blow one off the road
