Default A letter to my congressmen(help)
I recently wrote a letter to my congressmen asking him about his stance on marijuana

Read his response below and help me decide what to respond back with
convincing stats or something of the sort would help
but whatever you got would be helpful
thanks

Dear Mr. smith,

Thank you for your letter regarding the decriminalization of marijuana.

While we agree that drug use is harming our economy, straining our prison system and destroying the lives of our children, I believe there are more effective remedies than legalization. Drug use is tragic, but I do not believe that legalizing drugs like marijuana, even for medicinal purposes, is the best answer.

Decriminalizing drugs could make the problem worse. If drugs, like marijuana, are decriminalized, I believe their use would increase and more people would become addicted. To me, law enforcement efforts to decrease the supply of drugs and combat their use are one component of the drug war. We need to strike a better balance between education, enforcement and treatment to reduce drug abuse.

To be candid, I do not support the legalization of industrial hemp for several reasons. It is exceptionally difficult to distinguish the varieties of cannabis sativa that contain high concentrations of the hallucinogen delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) from varieties that do not. I share the concerns of the Drug Enforcement Agency that the similarities of the different cannabis varieties would complicate our fight against the abuse of illicit narcotics.

While I understand that many promote hemp as a sort of “wonder crop,” the facts surrounding hemp present a much less clear cut case. The Department of Agriculture and the Department of Commerce have found that legalization of industrial hemp would present little economic benefit to the U.S. These studies found that for every proposed use of industrial hemp, there already exists an available product which is cheaper to manufacture and provides better market results. For example, the cheapest hemp linen costs about $15 per square yard. A similar cost profile for fine flax linen is $7.50 per square yard.

Thank you for taking the time to contact me. For more information on my work in Congress or to send me an electronic message, feel free to visit the 21st District’s website, http://lamarsmith.house.gov.

Lamar Smith

Bullshit, Bullshit and more bullshit....

As far as hemp, if they would allow it, it would end up fucking up outdoor marijuana Crops in 3 generations because of cross pollination..... This would accomplish something the DEA hasn't been able to do in 40 years.

he is sticking to government propaganda. there is no hope for this man to see your cause at this time.

you could, possibly send him the statistics of other nations who have taken a decriminalization stance and found that it does NOT increase use of any drugs. it simply de-populates the prisons. (u.s. politicians wont go for that because the law enforcement, legal and punitive systems in place benefit greatly, financially, from prohibition.)

as far as his 'solution' of continuing the drug war to DECREASE the supply of drugs, you might also point him to sworn testimony of government agents who claim that it is the u.s. government, thru the CIA, who brings in the majority of the drugs in this country and then violently attack and destroy their own citizens lives who buy the drugs. the war on drugs is a corrupt, fear based, money making scheme organized and perpetrated perpetually by the u.s. government against their own people.

it would take a highly organized brief, intelligently and articulately presented, to get the point across of how many false assumptions he is under. and that's if he isn't a truly corrupted man who doesn't spot you for an informed citizen and put you on a government watch list.

keep fighting the fine fight for liberty, dude. but be smart about it. there's wolves in every government office. one safe way to contribute to this fight is to support an established organization like NORML. it brings less attention to you and your family.

good luck.

BTW, hemp is more expensive because its not being grown on an agricultural scale here in the u.s. what hemp we have is imported. he's a bullshitter, for sure. industrial hemp would out perform ANY other plant in growth speed and number of uses. his quoting of a 'government' study for support is priceless bullshit.

Don't wast ur time, it's not gona happen. World wide, the goverments have a war against cannabis(dam dutch/BC fuckers)
While I sure well over 75% of people really don't see the harm and less then 5% see it as evil things will never change.I'm still woundering why the cannabis act still holds water after 80yrs while Prohibition ended fast.
The people wanted to drink the government wanted the tax money, its was a win win for all sides. So whats the differents?
It's getting really old to keep having the government act like the people are retarded.

why? money, thats why.

more people in the country drink than smoke, thats why alcohol prohibition ended. it was completely unworkable and the black market benifited WAY too high profits for the government to not want a peice of the action thru regulation and tax.

only 10% of the population smokes weed. more money can be made by the government thru prohibition then legalization. corrupt fuckholes.

that would make sence if the cannabis market wasnt a billion dollar black market itself. The government doesnt have a leg to stand on as to cannabis prohibition. They have ZERO facts and really weak reasons why the laws should stay the same.My grandmother is in her 70s, she dont give a shit about smoking cigarettejoints(thats what she calls em)
Its about time the people stop waiting for the likes of ron paul/obama to change the way government is.
FOR THE PEOPLE
BY THE PEOPLE
ACTION IS LONG OVER DUE!
