One of Harry S. Trumans' (a liberal Democrat) best friends was Herbert Hoover (a conservative Republican). Mr. Truman said many times that it did not really matter whether a man was a Democrat or a Republican. Or was a liberal or a conservative.
What matters is whether or not the man can be trusted to tell the voters the truth.

This ploy often works, with the vote in Congress going the Democrat way regardless of election promises and convictions. It is a sad truth, but those committed to the preservation of this great country as we currently know it, honoring its history and its traditions, are in a battle with those who would transform this country into a mere shadow of our former brilliance, a brilliance which has persevered for over 200 years because of the freedoms our founders endowed us with. Taxation and charity aren't on that list.
yea but just like mockingbird just said can you trust all man?

I dont think its a matter of trusting ALL men, but trusting humanity as a whole. And yes, I believe in the greater good of humanity.

The term "liberal" was hijacked by the socialists around the turn of the last century ... 1890 or so. The term "liberal" used to be applied to folks who followed the thinking of Thomas Jefferson and John Locke. Those folks were, as I am, Jeffersonian Liberals. Their belief was/is that government that governs best, governs least. They/we believe in a small, non-intrusive central government with power to the states. They/we believe in constitutional government and federalism. They/we believe in individual responsibility, private charity and sound money. We believe in economic and political liberty. These ideas, Classical Liberalism, is diametrically opposed to what is now known as modern liberalism, which is nothing but Marxism-lite.

yeah sorry i said men instead of humans i was more trying to say that because we know how humans are, we want things, some want more than others, and if we were all pure in heart all these systems and ideas could work better as a whole.

But, the point Harry Truman used to make was this, it is NOT about ideology. It is about a man's character to tell the truth and deal with consequences honestly.
