Default CFLs really do Suck!!!

I have been somewhat ambivalent regarding CFLs(for non growing applications) for growing I agree fully with fdd!

Now there is a very good reason to hate them.
How many of you realize that here in the USA, our burgeoning Nanny state has determined that we "free" citizens will no longer have any choice of light bulbs!

This is another reason for me not to be a Bush fan.
This is truly disgusting!

On December 19, President Bush signed an energy bill that will, among many, many other things, force you to buy a new kind of light bulb. He did this because environmental enthusiasts don't like the light bulbs you're using now. He and they reason, therefore, that you shouldn't be allowed to have them. So now you can't.
-----------

Sam Kazman, of the antiregulation Competitive Enterprise Institute, likes to cite the now legendary Great Light Bulb Exchange sponsored by a local power company in the tiny town of Traer, Iowa. Half the town's residents turned in their incandescents for free CFLs--and electricity consumption rose by 8 percent. The cost of burning electricity went down, and demand increased. Funny how that happens.
--------------

U.S. News and World Report explained why: "Turning a CFL on and off frequently shortens its life."
Odd, isn't it--an energy-saving device that you're not supposed to turn off? Such complications undermine the extravagant claims made for the CFLs' energy savings. Let's say you're a CFL aficionado and you want to fetch your car keys from your darkened bedroom: You switch on the light, wait a couple minutes, finally find the wallet as the room slowly brightens, and then leave the light on, because you don't want to shorten the life of your expensive CFL. Will you remember to go back and turn it off 15 minutes later? Or will you get in your Prius, drive to Whole Foods, and leave the light burning for several more hours ......

Hey, wait a darn minute here Wavels. I shop at Whole Foods and I'm also considering a Prius as my next car. And ... I will install a CFL bulb in the fixture right above my three-gallon toilet tank that I must flush three times, using twice the amount of water my old toilet used to get the job done. I am a good little citizen and worker! ~lol~

Yeah I heard that the regular bulbs will be phased out by 2012. You won't even be able to buy them in 4 years.

Lol----Vi says...

Hahahaha
These new toilets are horrible...they actually waste much more water, and I have never met a homeowner who likes them, once again the law of unintended consequences rears its ugly head....
The road to hell is paved with good intentions and it seems to me that some among us are constructing a superhighway!!!!

Default Hey Wavels

Most definitely not. Freedom of choice is always a good thing...
I don't see how the government can ban incandesents. Wouldn't that create a monopoly on the market?

And what about the mercury that is inside them?.........I wonder what the government is going to have to say once people start getting health problems 30 years down the road b/c of their government-mandated CFLs?

Ah yes ... its the old unintended consequences thingie again, foisted upon us by the do-gooders in Washington.

Wavels ...

Have you ever heard Mark Levin rant about the three-gallon toilets? Another great idea from our liege lords in the Congress-place. ~lol~

Mercury from exploding CFL bulbs, Air bags that kill children and toilets that have to be flushed three times (six times for Med) to get the job done. What's next? Oh, I know ... fuel made from corn that costs six times as much to process than gasoline and pollutes five times as much ... counting the fertilzer run-off into the streams and oceans.

Gotta love our federal government!

I'm confused... I'll still be able to buy my HPS bulbs right?!?!?!
I dont get why they make such a big deal about the murcury in CFLs, it is an incredibly minute amount, its like 15 MG or somthing, while regular florecent lights have 2 drops which is like 1000 MG of murcury (exaduration :P) and people break thoes for fun

isnt ethenol supost to burn safer?! I thought that was why people liked it... its even worse ? that sucks
I read tht they can make like 100 gallons of etenol from 1 acre of hemp, while it takes 12 acres of corn to produce the same amount of ethenol
