Arrow The Shock Doctrine: The evil of “Disaster Capitalism”
Folks this is the other Naomi ... not to be confused with Naomi Wolfe who wrote about the 10 points of dictatorship ... no this is Kline ... and her message is as important as Wolfe's ...

The Shock Doctrine: The evil of “Disaster Capitalism”

There has been no shortage of books chronicling the dystopia that is the Bush Administration. And in this job, I’ve read quite a few of them. None of them have made as powerful an impact as Naomi Klein’s The Shock Doctrine.I promise you, it will change how you look at government policy and responses. It also finally sealed forever, for me at least, the coffin of the utter bollocks of Friedman economics. Listen to me carefully, you free market fanatics: FRIEDMAN. POLICIES. DO. NOT. WORK. PERIOD. His version of ‘free market economics’ STIFLES democracy. They create an oligarchy that is the opposite of democracy.
Don’t believe me? Author Naomi Klein gives compelling examples in history proving that Disaster Capitalism” has been the foundation of government’s actions and how none of it has been done for the benefit of the populace.

So sit back with your cup of joe and edumacate yourself and the shit that is going down ... remember the illegitimate bush regime's greatest fear is a WELL INFORMED PUBLIC ... enjoy ...

Default Nice Looking Post
Hey Rebel. That is a really nice looking post. Who did it for you? I sure you were not capable of writing all those big words by yourself.

Here is a friendly suggestion; You and Naomi get a rowboat and start paddling to the communist utopia of Cuba. You will both be welcomed with open arms.

Weather is nice this time of year down there. Good luck.

She certainly explained what I presumed was going on in a clarifying way. I knew there was more to Regans trickle down. My question is: when are we the people going to push back? Are there that many wannabees to keep this insanity going, are there that many Vis and Wavels to keep perpetuating this evil plan. There is nothing worse than a little success in decieving the righteous hard working Proletariat by shocking them into acceptance of your twisted monetary policies. What really opened my eyes was the nomenclature, neo-liberals, wow, that would surely piss off VI and Wavels if they knew they were liberals after-all, Take that you liberal bastards,~LOL~.

Rebel, you and Naomi, and Dennis the Menace Kucinich, and Hillary Clinton ALL believe the same thing. You believe there is a vast right-wing conspiracy. Instead of focusing on junk pseudo-science and junk pseudo-macro economics, focus on solutions!

She spoke about failure in New Orleans. Which, is something I know a little about. New Orleans has suffered for fifty years at the hands of elected incompetents and thieves. Mayor Ray Nagun is the worst of the worst, and the voters just reelected him.

The only thing your woman Naomi had to say, that was truthful, is that the aftermath of ruin was contrived. But, the run-up, if you check your facts, was the real ruin on New Orleans. Fifty years of politicians promising uneducated people solutions, while lining their collective pockets. Well, over half of these carpet-baggers were democrats. But, they had republican thieves assisting them.

The looming doom was known for at least a decade before the hurricane arrived. Nobody but the print media, gave a damn. And most of those people who would be affected could not or would not read about the details, to prepare.

Naomi drivels on about school corruption in the aftermath. Did she, or any of you concerned liberals, bother to check the facts? Before the hurricane the only major educational accomplishment for most of those schools was teaching football. Little Johnny can't read, but he can diagram a half-back option pass. What a waste.

So save your silly political assassinations, and make a real change.

Amazing but I have to agree with you to some extent, yes there was a lot of pre-catastrophy ignorance by all administrations, but the post catastrophy ignorance goes straight to the Bush regime and the mayor, Nagen, and the Governor. They all dropped the ball. Look what they did on the rich part of the gulf coast, they brought in cruise ships to house those people, no cruise ships for the poor blacks in New Orleans. Class warfare in reverse, or as it has always been. Provide for the rich and fuck the poor.

medicineman, I don't know when we have ever been closer to a total agreement on anything. I used to work down there several times a year. Almost every week the local rags had impending doom articles. So did National Geographic, I believe Time and Popular Mech as well. It was simple physics. New Orleans on a good day is 4 feet below sea level. Most hurricanes have a 12 foot ocean rise. That equals -16 feet through-out town. My problem with Naomi is she was throwing partisan mud instead of focusing on a bilateral process of political failure. Also, she rants on the schools. Sad thing about the schools, is they really sucked before Katrina. That whore-monger made it sound like they were perfect and Bush and his buddies done them in. I have no idea what education is like now. I doubt it could be any worse than it had been.

Oh, by the way, class warfare? You might have the basis for a legitimate argument here. It was an extremely dysfunctional economy. But, let us be blunt, if poor black people keep voting dog-shit into office, because it is democratic and not lily-white, the disaffection will continue. And this disfunction creates defacto apartide. Macro-econ 102.

p.s. Oh, one last thing "pre-catastrophy ignorance by all administrations", there was no ignorance. The dirty bastards were just playing possum with the press.

dropped the ball in New Orleans? or dropped the hammer?

hey mockingbird:
it's because we citizens are sympathetic about our fellow americans that we tend to think those in office are too. slick, rich, double talking, secret agenda polititions don't give a fuck about you and me. they dont care about america. they dont care about americans. they dont give a fuck about blacks in new orleans. and they will capitilize on any disaster.

when you pull your head out of the sand and realize polititions dont give a fuck about you or your family and will sell this country out for a big paycheck, the problems in this nation will become clearer. until you understand the problem, the solutions you and others come up with wont fix jack.
