I got this in an e-mail from a friend of mine the other day. I was surprised I had missed this story as I am a news junky. I think it's testament to how the political elite view themselves as seperate from you and I. He has been indicted recently for aggravated assault. Now I support the senator's actions but I'm pretty outraged at his stance on gun control and the hypocracy of these politicians.
Anti-Gun Senator Shoots Intruder
Aug 24, 2009
Long time Anti-Gun Advocate State Senator R.C. Soles, 74, shot one of two intruders at his home justoutside Tabor City, N.C. about 5 p.m. Sunday, the prosecutor for the politician's home county said.
The victim, Kyle Blackburn, was taken to a South Carolina hospital, but the injuries were not reported to be life-threatening, according to Rex Gore, district attorney for Columbus, Bladen and Brunswick counties..
The State Bureau of Investigation and Columbus County Sheriff 's Department are investigating the shooting, Gore said. Soles, who was not arrested, declined to discuss the incident Sunday evening.
"I am not in a position to talk to you," Soles said by telephone. "I'm right in the middle of an investigation."
Soles, a top-ranking Democrat and the longest-serving member of the legislature, already was the subject of an SBI investigation over sexual misconduct allegations with former male clients. (FHW - Now, that sounds more like a liberal to me).
The Senator, who has made a career of being against gun ownership for the general public, didn't hesitate to defend himself with his own gun when he believed he was in immediate danger and he was the victim.
In typical hypocritical liberal fashion, the "Do As I Say And Not As I Do" Anti-Gun Activist Lawmaker picked up his gun and took action in what apparently was a self-defense shooting. Why hypocritical you may ask? It is because his long legislative record shows that the actions that he took to protect his family, his own response to a dangerous life threatening situation, are actions that he feels ordinary citizens should not have if they were faced with an identical situation.
It has prompted some to ask if the Senator believes his life and personal safety is more valuable than yours or mine.
But, this is to be expected from those who believe they can run our lives, raise our kids, and protect our familiesbetter than we can.
Democracy never lasts long, it soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself.

lol that is too funny!
It will be fun to see how this guy tries to explain this one.
A very good economics website: "Econmics in plain english" http://welkerswikinomics.com/blog/
There has to be more to this than what the article is saying. A quick perusal of NC law shows it is legal to own a handgun (if you go through the proper channels). Perhaps there was not enough cause to show that level of response (shooting in the leg), but to be honest you kick in my front door & I promise I'll aim a bit higher.
Not withstanding the legality of the issue, I believe the op is correct in his assumption of hypocrisy on the part of Senator Soles.
And I'm a fan of Labyrinth too.

Well I don't know about N.C. law but most places you have to be threated with deadly force (the perpetrator has to have a gun or a knife) or not able to get away from the situation. Even in your own home. He will probably be found innocent or make a sweet ass deal with the DA. Problem with this thing is he is anti-gun! Are you kidding me? He has stood up in the Senate for years preaching about how guns should be outlawed yet he owns and apparently uses a gun. Can you say double standard? He will most likely be sued by the guy who got shot as well, and will probably lose the lawsuit.![]()

Doesn't the senator know that if you intend to shoot someone you are much better off making sure they are stone cold dead and therefore cannot sue or make a statement.

I'm no detective, but when I see "sexual misconduct with guys" among his charges, I'd be willing to wager this was a tryst gone wrong and not a break-in (especially at 5:00pm).
Just my initial thoughts; curious to see what the real story is (if and when it comes out).
This is a sad truth. Our overly litigious society coupled with our idiotic laws regarding use of deadly force and guns make this one of those sad truths.
I'm surprised to see that nobody is really commenting on how much of a hypocrite this prick is. Staunch antigun senator shoots intruder. A bit of irony.![]()
