Quote:
i read some rhetoric about keeping our nation safe requires us to keep fighting an illegal war. i read some crap about 'we're too dependant on foreign oil'. (i thought that was why we were there in the first place?) i heard good news that there will be tax cuts to help get medical coverage. and then more crap on the illegal war. there was enough bullshit in that speech to grown shrooms. |

I loved the part about Iraqi's joining the military instead of joining the insurgency. He admits that those who have killed our soldier's are now joining their army and police, kinda scary if you think about it. Just goes to show how badly we are truly failing in Iraq when we are allowing criminals to police the country. It would be like having a police shortage here and them going to a prison or a county jail to get recruits. Just plain dumb.

j/know here are some numbers to worry about: Casualties of War - Putting American Casualties in Perspective by - November 3, 2003The United States of America has a somewhat unique relationship with war. While America is considered to be the most militarily powerful country in the world today, Americans as a whole have never experienced war in the way that many other countries of the world have. There is a huge disparity between the American experience of war and the global experience. This may have an impact on American attitudes towards war. Presented below are various statistics on causalities of war. The information is useful for reference material, but it is also useful for gaining an understanding of the human cost of war, and the cost of war for Americans compared to the rest of the world, which may be helpful in understanding cultural attitudes about war. The total number of Americans killed in action from all major wars combined, the ten listed below, is 2,757,196, which, while a disheartening number, is about the same as the number of Vietnamese that died in the Vietnam War alone. ![]() WarDuration in monthsRevolutionary War80War of 181230Mexican-American War20Civil War48Spanish-American War4World War I19World War II44Korean War37Vietnam War90Gulf War1 ![]() WarCasualtiesKIARevolutionary War10,623 4,435War of 18126,7652,260Mexican-American War17,4351,733Civil War970,227184,594Spanish-American War4,108385World War I320,71053,513World War II1,078,162292,131Korean War136,93533,651Vietnam War211,47147,369Gulf War760148 ![]() World War ICountryMilitary PersonnelMilitary DeathsMilitary CasualtiesRussia12,000,0001,700,0009,150,000German y11,000,0001,773,7007,142,558Austria-Hungary7,800,0001,200,0007,020,000France8,410,0001 ,357,8006,160,800British Empire8,904,467908,3713,190,235Italy5,615,000650,0 002,197,000Turkey2,850,000325,000975,000United States4,355,000126,000364,800Others4,104,343497,44 41,298,293 ![]() ![]() ![]() World War II DeathsCountryMilitary Civilian Total Soviet Union13,600,0007,700,00021,300,000China1,324,00010 ,000,00011,324,000Germany3,250,0003,810,0007,060,0 00Poland850,0006,000,0006,850,000Japan1,506,000300 ,0001,806,000Yugoslavia300,0001,400,0001,700,000Ru mania520,000465,000985,000France340,000470,000810, 000Hungary??750,000Austria380,000145,000525,000Gre ece??520,000Italy330,00080,000410,000Czechoslovaki a??400,000Great Britain326,00062,000388,000USA295,000N/A295,000Holland14,000236,000250,000Belgium10,00075 ,00085,000Finland79,000?79,000Canada39,000N/A39,000India36,000?36,000Australia29,000N/A29,000Spain12,00010,00022,000Bulgaria19,0002,0002 1,000New Zealand12,000N/A12,000South Africa9,000N/A9,000Norway5,000?5,000Denmark4,000?4,000Total23,2 89,00030,755,00055,714,000 ![]() (Note that Australian, British, French, Chinese, Laotian, Cambodian, and several other nationalities were involved in the Vietnam war as well, but I don't have their statistics shown here.
