Default Mexican Truckers invade The US today
Mexican Trucks To Invade US Roadways, Displace American Truck Drivers - Thank Our Criminal President And NAFTA

WASHINGTON, DC — The Teamsters Union said it has been told by officials in the Transportation Department’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration that the first Mexican trucks will be coming across the border on Saturday.
The union said Wednesday it would ask a federal appeals courts to block the Bush administration’s plan to begin allowing Mexican trucks to carry cargo anywhere in the United States.
Teamsters leaders said they planned to seek an emergency injunction Wednesday from the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in San Francisco.
“What a slap in the face to American workers, opening the highways to dangerous trucks on Labor Day weekend, one of the busiest driving weekends of the year,” said Teamsters President Jim Hoffa.
Joining the Teamsters in seeking the emergency stay were the Sierra Club and Public Citizen.
“Before providing unconditional access throughout the country to tens of thousands of big rigs we know little to nothing about, we must insure they meet safety and environmental standards,” Sierra Club executive director Carl Pope said.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, in a statement, said it was working closely with the department’s inspector general “as his office completes an additional assessment of the program and we prepare a detailed response to that report.”
The Bush administration said last week it would start the cross-border program once the Transportation Department’s inspector general certifies safety and inspection plans.
Leslie Miller, a Teamsters spokeswoman, said attorneys for the federal truck safety agency advised the union’s lawyers that they expect to get that certification on Friday. She said the Teamsters also were told by the agency attorneys that limited authority for trucks to begin crossing the border will be approved Saturday.
Supporters of the plan say letting more Mexican trucks on U.S. highways will save American consumers hundreds of millions of dollars.
Labor and driver-owner groups have been fighting the measure — part of the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement — since it was first proposed, saying the program will erode highway safety and eliminate U.S. jobs.
A one-year demonstration project would allow 100 Mexican motor carriers full access to U.S. roads. It can begin as soon as the inspector general certifies that safety and inspection plans and facilities are sufficient to ensure the Mexican trucks are as safe as U.S. trucks.
Since 1982, Mexican trucks have had to stop within a buffer border zone and transfer their loads to U.S. trucks.
According to the CHP, 18 percent of Mexican carriers were sidelined in 2006. That figure stands in contrast with the 19 percent of American companies................................................Wait untill one of those worn out Mexican trucks kills a whole family of illegals here in the USA, wouldn't that be something to watch on TV. But seriously, this is just another blow to the middle class truck drivers and definently to safety on our highways. NAU, the beginning.

"Since 1982, Mexican trucks have had to stop within a buffer border zone and transfer their loads to U.S. trucks."

That sounds pretty inefficient to me. But what the Hell, if the Teamsters and Sierra Club join forces against the Mexican trucks, it has to be a good thing. I mean, we all know there isn't any self interest afoot, don't we boys?

Self interest like saving their jobs from low cost mexican labor, what planet are you from anyway. If the crack mexican salesmen were coming to town and were accepting 1/4 of your usual commission to push houses, would you be concerned. Geeze, talk about a brick head. ~LOL~.

I have news for ya, Med ... there is always brutal competition in my business. There are already people out there charging 1/4 of a normal commission. Like anything else in life, you get what you pay for. The key is to learn everything you can about the competition and what they offer. Then, during the sales presentation, show the prospect what they will get from the competition in terms of exposure, and what they will get from you, the full service broker. Its well known in the sales field that fear of loss is a far greater motivator than chance of gain.

Well La-ti-da. It doesn't work that way in the trucking industry. If you let the cheap mexican labor move our goods, do you really think the price of the goods will come down. Hell no. The profit will go up and many more middle class families will be without jobs. Can't you see the trend, or do you really give one fuck about anyone other than yourself. The mexican truckers will eventually demand more money and be replaced with Salvadoran drivers and on and on untill the whole labor market is about 2.00 an hour, the great NAU in action. I see the crash of this great nation coming about by Greed. It won't affect us too much as we'll be long gone, but my grandkids are in for a rough ride.

Well then, find a more efficient way to move product. Quite frankly, I think the world, or at least the highways, would be better off with no trucks at all.

i personally don't see how the president can be concerned about enforcing a provision of NAFTA when the laws regarding our nation's borders are ignored by thousands of illegals everyday.

this is a great example of what is wrong with our government.

Well, your probably right. I made 20.00 an hr. at my union job. I know plenty of truckers that made more, owner-operators, and plenty of drivers that made less. 20.00 an hour is about subsistence level pay. without my wifes income, we would have been poor indeed. I don't know how minimum wage workers do it. I never made less than 20.00 an hr. since the 70s, problem is, I never made more either, so were living on 70s wages in 2007 prices, even 2 incomes is not enough to live comfortably.
