who here thinks that someone can be racist and not even realize it? and adamantly deny it? i for one do, i've seen it.

Aren't there enough real problems to worry about?

i feel this is a huge problem! says alot about our country, and where some people are truly coming from.......

If this were true Jews would feel racism towards anyone who looked German right, or do you believe this only apply to a certain race? I find the opposite to be true.

There are bigger fish to fry. But I have a good story pretty innocent. I live in a predominately while town. When we were teens a friend and I would go out for coffee every day. He drives... we get into the parking lot and there are 4-5 black kids playing while there parents are eating at an outside restaurant next door to coffee shop. Nothing to me, I grew up in a bunch of diff cities with mostly if not all non-white friends. But I guess this is where the issue comes in. He lived here his whole life, never really experiencing what I had, proceeds to lock the car doors. I'm like "What are you scared the kids will break into your car?" Nobody locks their doors around here, he never had not even the house I could walk into his house anytime. I just kinda laughed it off inside, threw me for a loop.
So after coffee we head to his place to do whatever probably playing crib at the time so we pull up and there are a bunch of neighborhood kids playing on the street. We hop out the car and walk toward the house. Me being me I asked him "What? your not going to lock the car?" It was like he didn't understand why I asked him, and just walked inside. Nothing was said after that but for 15 years and to this day he locks his car everywhere. If that's his way of not feeling racist I dunno? Or maybe he doesn't trust anyone anymore?

I think everyone is racist to some degree including you. I have a mixed family, and yet I know it is in me somewhere. The miracle of life is not that we are all good people that avoid doing bad things. It is that all of us are screwed up and still able to do good things. Accept that you will never be perfect and you will soon be on the road to becoming so.

You're right you would think I'm racist because I'm proud of my white heritage.

well said guitar! Where I'm from is 99% white. When I was a kid we moved around alot and most my friends were not white. The thing about where we live tho is that there is an indian reservation not far from here and it's statistically one of the worst as far a crime/murder etc. This has a huge effect on the people here. alot of racism toward indians. Another thing that doesn't help is that a large portion of the crimes committed by the white people here get put on the natives skewing the local perception even more. Little stuff like local kids stealing cars joyride it and leave it near the reserve. Just about anything that doesn't resolved gets put on them. Sucks!!!

Green, I was actually responding to the original poster but since you ask, pride has nothing to do with it. Racism is about fear more than pride. There is nothing wrong with being proud of your ancestors achievements.
