So how many voters are going to change party affiliations and declare as independents? Anybody fed up with both major parties enough to vote differently?

I think we should start a "People's Party". Just a fresh start with none of the old stigma attached to it.

Personally, I no longer feel that voting for a third party is a wasted vote. I now think that voting for the same old same old is a wasted vote. I've voted for candidates from the Dems and the Pubes, and every time they took office they pushed us further into bummerville.

And what exactly would be the platform of the people's party?

I have been a independent for a while now. But the problem is unless on the local level it is 100% a wasted vote. The dems and Republicans are so close it doesn't really matter. I would like to see the Libiterians and Green party gain some steam and have a 4 party system here in the states so that we can actually vote the issues and not just the same thing arguing different points they both agree on.

I really think that we need a viable third party (at least) that is based on the concepts of the actual constitution. I'm reading Ron Paul's book Revolution right now and its amazing how far we have drifted from what the drafters of the constitution had in mind.

There are other parties out there right now. The Libertarian Party, the Constitution Party ... and the U.S. Tax Payer's Party. Check them out.
