LOL WEIGHT CRIMES.............. TYRANNY
Video Is childhood obesity child abuse? July 22: A S.C. mom is charged with child abuse because her 14-year-old son weighs 555 pounds. NBC’s Dr. Nancy Snyderman talks with a panel. Dr. Nancy http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32170526...th-health_care Nearly 10 percent of health spending for obesity Report: Treating weight-related diseases costs U.S. $147 billion updated 7:45 p.m. ET, Mon., July 27, 2009 WASHINGTON - Obesity's not just dangerous, it's expensive. New research shows medical spending averages $1,400 more a year for an obese person than someone who's normal weight. Overall obesity-related health spending reaches $147 billion, double what it was nearly a decade ago, says the study published Monday by the journal Health Affairs. Don't blame things like stomach-stapling for all those extra bills. They instead reflect the costs of treating diabetes , heart disease and other ailments far more common for the overweight, concluded the study by government scientists and the nonprofit research group RTI International.RTI health economist Eric Finkelstein offers a blunt message for lawmakers trying to revamp the health care system : "Unless you address obesity, you're never going to address rising health care costs."Obesity-related conditions now account for 9.1 percent of all medical spending, up from 6.5 percent in 1998, the study concluded. Health economists have long warned that obesity is a driving force behind the rise in health spending. For example, diabetes costs the nation $190 billion a year to treat, and excess weight is the single biggest risk factor for developing diabetes. Moreover, obese diabetics are the hardest to treat, with higher rates of foot ulcers and amputations, among other things. The new study's look at per-capita spending may offer a shock to the wallets of people who haven't yet heeded straight health warnings. "Health care costs are dramatically higher for people who are obese and it doesn't have to be that way," said Jeff Levi of the nonprofit Trust for America's Health, who wasn't involved in the new research. "We have ways of changing behavior and changing those health outcomes so that we don't have to deal with the medical consequences of obesity," added Levi, who advocates community-based programs that promote physical activity and better nutrition. About a third of adult Americans are obese, and the obesity rate rose 37 percent between 1998 and 2006, the years covered by Monday's study. Prescription drugs for obesity-related illnesses account for much of the rise in spending. Medicare spends about $600 more per year on prescriptions for an obese beneficiary than a normal-weight one, the study found.

Dude, I just came back from the grocery store and I swear I seen a salad that was 3 dollars and it was no bigger than my fist with a lil cheese on top and a couple specks of ham.
Damn them doritos looked good. It should be cheap to be healthy you would think. I mean, running, walking, push ups.....hey whens the last time you couch potatoes did a couple push ups? Or sit ups? Snap to it. Get off that chair, turn off the computer, shut off the PS3, put down the twinkie, and get to work. It will be the best thing you can do for yourself cmon. Just 2, gimme 2 of em.......cmon. Bro, I scoped out health clubs in my area just for fun cause I wanted to get some shots and see some shoes....do you have any idea how expensive it is for a health-club membership.......and now this guy wont stop calling me! Obesity and Type II diabetes are just two more examples of the good intentions of government gone awry.
Thirty years ago. Congress passed a high tariff on imported sugar in an effort to protect our sugar beet growers from foreign competition. The result was a steep increase in domestic sugar prices. The result of these price increases forced the food processors to look for another way to sweeten their products. They turned to the corn producers and the chemists. The result was High Fructose Corn Syrup. Hight Fructose Corn Syrup has been proven to suppress insulin levels in humans and to also not allow the brain to signal when a person is full. Thirty years of HFCS in our foods = thirty years of obesity and Type II diabetes. Another thing the food processors discovered is that HFCS extends the shelf life of their products. Therefore, HFCS has found its way into a myriad of other products that the consumer wouldn't expect. Thomas English Muffins, Creamed Herring, most flavored yogurts, breads, and cereals are just some of the products containing HFCS. The smart consumer checks every food label and eliminates HFCS from their diets. Try eliminating HFCS, and any other form of corn syrup, from your diet for six week, without making any other changes, and see what happens. Vi

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/leslie..._b_161334.html Leslie Hatfield Posted February 27, 2009 | 05:12 AM (EST) BIO Become a Fan Get Email Alerts Bloggers' Index Our Melamine: There's Mercury in High Fructose Corn Syrup, and the FDA Has Known for Years Maybe Jeremy Piven didn't get mercury poisoning from fish at all -- according to the results of a new study released by the Institute for Agriculture and Trace Policy (IATP), the actor may well have been sickened by soda or candy or anything that contains high fructose corn syrup, which, if you eat processed food in this country means, well, just about anything. Foodies and nutritionists alike have been griping about high fructose corn syrup for years, and the industry has responded with an "astroturf" campaign and a level of secrecy generally reserved for military officials or secret societies (see Corn Refiners' Association president Audrae Erickson's stonewalling performance in King Corn). Of course, I wouldn't want to show my hand either, if the making of my product could be described as the undertaking of a "small Manhattan Project" (see eye-glazing production info here). But as it turns out, the HFCS industry has been hiding some major skeletons in its closet -- according to the IATP study (pdf), over 30% of products containing the substance tested positive for mercury. What makes this news truly shocking is not just that the manufacturers of high fructose corn syrup would put consumers' health at risk, but that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) knew about the mercury in the syrup, and has been sitting on this information since 2005. Here's the connection, according to the IATP press release (pdf): The IATP study comes on the heels of another study, conducted in 2005 but only recently published by the scientific journal, Environmental Health, which revealed that nearly 50 percent of commercial HFCS samples tested positive for the heavy metal. Renee Dufault, who was working for the FDA at the time, was among the 2005 study's authors. In spite of Dufault's involvement in the study, the FDA sat silent on this one for three years, and in fact last August, allowed manufacturers to call the sweetener "natural." Here's how the mercury gets in there, according to Janet at the Ethicurean: How did the heavy metal get in there? In making HFCS -- that "natural" sweetener, as the Corn Refiners Associaton likes to call it -- caustic soda is one ingredient used to separate corn starch from the corn kernel. Apparently most caustic soda for years has been produced in industrial chlorine (chlor-alkali) plants, where it can be contaminated with mercury that it passes on to the HFCS, and then to consumers. And more from the press release: "While the FDA had evidence that commercial HFCS was contaminated with mercury four years ago, the agency did not inform consumers, help change industry practice or conduct additional testing."And on why this matters: "Mercury is toxic in all its forms," said IATP's David Wallinga, M.D., and a co-author in both studies. "Given how much high fructose corn syrup is consumed by children, it could be a significant additional source of mercury never before considered. We are calling for immediate changes by industry and the FDA to help stop this avoidable mercury contamination of the food supply."In China, heads might roll over a scandal like this one, at least if the country received global attention for its allowing corrupt health officials' greasy palms to come before, um, public health. Of course, in this country, the FDA's "neck" is safe. But what about the health of American consumers? Let's see the Corn Refiners' Association try to spin this one. |
