Well, the numbers don't match up with the published budget information from the White House's Office of Management and Budget.

The source indicates that the numbers they used come from Senate appropriations bills and US Treasury reports, but those seem to be rather specious sources without any further clarification. The appropriation bills passed? Proposed? Currently in committee? Signed by the President?

And the US Treasury monthly reports? What about those? What is the extent of their utility when trying to get your mind around these astronomical numbers?

I have a feeling that the HHS numbers include the Social Security numbers which is curious since the source separated SSA from the rest of the bar charts.

Even the Defense (OFFense, anyone?) Department's numbers are about $100 billion more on the bar chart than is stated by the OMB.

I do agree with you that spending is a concern, but I believe that one must attack the domestic agenda by first prioritizing and doing some triage.

The numbers available for public consumption are mind-numbingly complex. Ideological foes of the current administration - irrespective of who is in the office - will go to great lengths to make the issues seem simple to fix and the current occupants seem inept, ignorant, and self-serving.

I am certainly biased favorably towards the current administration, but I am not closed minded. I just don't think that the folks who put together the bar chart you posted are above reproach in their analysis.

Why is counting of jobs saved "absurd"?

Because it is not knowable..... it's a pol trick.
