Of course they want preferential treatment and so does everyone else. Its human nature, Dankster, and THIS is why socialism/communism/fascism eventually fails everywhere its tried. Its also why competition in the free market provides the overall best living conditions on the planet.

I agree, but there is a fine point between a market-economy and a MARKET-ECONOMY. Give me Friedman most days, and a big hell no to Mises and Rothbard.

Democracy has always failed too Vi... Look at the Greek and Roman Empires.

I do not think the Roman empire was a democracy nor the Greek.

So, we should be thankful that we have a representative republic, no?

Yes the Roman Empire was a democracy.... It is the form of Government that the United States Patterned it's self after.

Read your History... The Romans had a Congress and a Senate.
Where do you think the Romans got that from? The Greeks.

Hmmm ... that's an interesting comment. I'd like to see you elaborate on it a bit. I've always been a fan of Hayek, Mises and Rothbard. Friedman too.

Have you ever read Hayek's "The Road to Serfdom?" Just wondering ...

Yeah, I've read "The Road to Serfdom." I read the edition that had an introduction written by Friedman. Fairly short book.
