Broken Promise By : TheBrutalTruth (2009-06-11 18:16:30)
So recently I got my Social Security Statement, and on it was text that makes me want to cringe. The government is now billing Social Security as a promise (of perpetual slavery) between generations. I am enslaved for the benefit of the last generation and in return the next generation will be enslaved for my benefit. This is absurd. I do not desire to be a slave, nor the master of slaves. I do not desire to have some one work for my benefit nor do I desire to be forced to work for the benefit of some one else. The system that Social Security has been reduced to is a system of perpetual slavery. A system that it was not supposed to become. The promise that those that contributed would get their contributions back was broken when Social Security was used to pay for other Social Programs by short-sighted vote-seeking politicians. Even in its inception Social Security was a failed concept as it ignores individuals and assumes that everyone is equal in their output. The only just form for Social Security to take would be an individual savings account. Though even that is monstrously unjust as by forcing people to save it deprives them of money that they could use to enhance their earning power, and ignores the fact that human beings are capable of making up their own mind. It is likely that with the extra $2,000 a year that a person making $8/hour would have that they could either receive a better education or make a better life for themselves on a material level. This is especially true when one looks at the cost of attending a community college which is about $1,000/semester. This money would then circulate through the economy providing more jobs, or enhancing the earning power of individuals through training, and increase in knowledge. This increase in knowledge could then lead to new technologies being developed, or new materials being discovered that would provide enhanced benefits for all of humanity. The idea that government serves to just benefit individuals through social security or any other socialist benefits program is a monstrous injustice that robs people of the capital they could use to develop better methods, materials and technologies. In short, by attempting to protect society from their own decisions government is depriving society of the creative spark of individuals that are stuck at the bottom. Social Security is nothing more than a program that leads to the increased stratification of society while depriving it of the creative genius that can randomly be found amongst the lower and middle classes. Forcing a man to save is unjust, and immoral, as it should be up to an individual what they do with the fruit of their sweat and blood, not up to a distant body of imbeciles enshrined in a city that continuously seeks to steal more and more of the produce of the nation for the pretended benefit of the nation.

i could do a much better job of saving and investing my money than the Gubbermint can. Social Security is the worlds largest Ponzi scheme, a scheme that would get anyone jail time, but the government can do anything illegal that it wants, it just has to say its in the countries best interest.

How silly you little boys are, slavery indeed. I'd wager that none of you ever did an honest days work in your infantile lives. Many of the lower income workers barely get by on their wages, let alone have anything left for savings. Savings are for the middle income up boys and girls. Social security is for the lower income groups. In fact if you were honest, you'd reject your Social security checks when they come and live off your savings, fat chance of that happening, EH?

Of course, the Slave-driver would try rationalizing their enslavement of others. No better than the Aristocratic plantation owners of the 19th century who probably rationalized their enslavement of others as being more beneficial for the slaves than being left wherever. You make me spew Med the Enslaver. ![]()

Med the Enslaver...wow has a nice "Dark Ages" ring to it.
Med, even the most impoverished person can afford to save a little, properly invested and over time and with a little luck even a small amount can become a large amount. I am sure you had to save for something in your life right? When I was a kid I used to sell lemonade, mow lawns, pull weeds and get old ladies groceries, then in the afternoons i went to my uncles Ranch/Farm and moved irrigation piping or picked stones out of the fields. I did this most summers from age 8 to 16, during the winters I shoveled snow, some days i didn't get done until 10 o clock at night and then it was off to bed so i could get up early enough to do my homework for school. By age 16 I had my own car that I bought with my own money, by age 29 I owned my house, by age 36 i had paid off every debt I had. I went to college, for 2 years before i realized that I wasn't being taught anything i didn't already know or couldn't teach myself. I paid for school by holding down 2 full time jobs, I did this with 4 kids and a wife who never worked a day for what they had. The most i ever made was in 2002, $57,000 lots of overtime. These last years I haven't made more than $44,000. My bank account never has more than $2,000 in it, but since I was 10 years old my grandpa got me into a small easy to do investment that ANYONE can do. I started by investing $5 a week, lately i try to put $1000 a month into it. That investment has grown to a considerable amount, Im far from a millionaire or anything, but I could lose my job for a few years and be ok. Give it another 20 years of earning and investing and it should really be worth something since 1971 it has increased in price by 2700% and it only gets better as we go on in a inflationary environment.

hey med...I wonder what world these folks in. $2000 dollars a year is a lot, $5.60 a day, you guys realize thats what some folks spent on food for the whole day. have you even heard of the working poor?
social security would be fine today and nobody would be paying for any other generation if the republicans had not decided to put the SS trust fund in the general fund. remember when asl gore said it should be put ina lock box and the reukes made fun of him...and as it turns out al was right...imagine that. |

Then there's the fact that you are misreading what I'm saying. I'm saying that with out the forced Social Security Contributions a person earning $8/hr would have another $2,000 in their pocket/year. Definitely sounds like it would ease their burdens slightly, cause that's enough to attend a community college, or like you said, feed themselves for a year. As usual you're contribution is either senseless, confusing or partisaned in such a way as to ignore the more destructive policies of your party.

The question was how is the above, forcing this current generation to work for the benefit of your generation and then forcing the next generation to work for the benefit of this generation, not slavery. It fits the definition of slavery, there is no "feeling" involved to it. Whether a slave believes he is free or believes he is a slave does not change the facts of his enslavement.
