| | Stem Cell Research | | What do you guys think of M.J.F. and his parkinson routine on fox news?
I think that stem cell research is very important and we have been doing it in this country for years.
I don't think that the focus of this report should be on whether M.J. was acting or not. It should be that stem cell research is very important, and needed for a forward thinking society.
If you guys elect another religous type I'll be very disappointed. Our fate's are not sealed, there will be no armageddon unless we invite it by continuing to believe in childish fairy tales.
Our lives are very short, we need to get real for the sake of our children. |

| | stem cells | | Yes, whether he was exagerating or not, the message is well taken. Forget about the messenger and listen to the message. To not do stem cell research would be about as far from Jesus Christs teachings as you could be. Heal the sick was one of his most prolific messages, did he not perform healings himself. The Christian right is wrong on this one. The stem cells invbolved would never become human life anyway! |

If humankind uncovers a science, we should be able to use it without divine-command-theorists using their politico-morality to stop medical progress.
I think they can clone individual organs too, eliminating the common misconception of having to grow and slaughter an exact human clone...

| | Is the Christian Right against ALL stem cell research, or only stem cells taken from aborted fetuses? Just asking a question here, as I don't have the info. Thanks ... Vi |

| | Stem cell research is very important if we want to make progress in medicine.
It's disappointing, that here in the U.S. that progress may rest in the hands of ignorant religious people who are blinded by their faith.
And based on what I've heard from the "Christian Right" Vi, they are mostly opposed to Embryonic stem cell research not necessarily all stem cell research. They believe that as soon as an egg is fertilized by sperm, it is considered a human being equal to you and I.
This is a question that I've heard being asked of people who share those beliefs: If a building was on fire, and you could only save one of these; A petri dish full of fertilized eggs or a 2 year old baby. Which would you save?
Let me know what you guys think.

| | Hmmm ... interesting response, Doobie. I think some of the fear the religious people have is the "Nose under the tent" thing. Maybe they see escalation here. In other words, at what point do we abandon the petri dish and proceed with taking cells from formed fetuses? And ... if we are aborting and using our unborn for convienience sake, when do we start eliminating people when they become useless and inconvienient ... like the infirmed or the aged? Vi |

| | The way I see it, where is it the governemnt's job to dictate morality to anyone?
Be it Embryonic stem cell research, or Gay Marriage or what we put into our bodies. |

| | The right is getting ready to counter that MJF ad with another one at the next series game where the starting pitcher for the Cardinals and some other athletes/celebs admonish us that human cloning is not specifically banned under proposition in question. |

| | We do not need to clone the whole human, merely an organ...
Our organs replace themselves over a period of time so long as they are given sufficient time to do so. Surely there is a way of speeding this process up, so that the cells replace themselves at a much faster rate. |
