Thumbs down Letter recieved from Senator
I sent a letter to my state senator, it was from either NORML or LEAP or MPP or one of those organizations that is in favor of cannabis legalization, you know the letters I'm talking about, the pre-written ones that are worded very well and make good solid points about ending the drug war on weed. I try to send these things everytime I see them and I always use my real name and address to be as legit as posible.

This is the crap I received in return (with name edits):
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Below is a response to the recent comments I received from you:
Dear Mr. BlahBlah:
Thank you for contacting me regarding legalizing marijuana. I appreciate hearing from you and would like to respond to your concerns.
On April 17, 2008, Representative Barney Frank (D-MA) introduced the Act to Remove Federal penalties for the Personal Use of marijuana by Responsible Adults (H.R.5843). This legislation allows adults to possess marijuana for personal and not-for-profit transfer as long as it is 100 grams or less. If convicted under the Controlled Substance Act, a civil penalty of $100 or less will be enforced. H.R. 5843 has been referred to the Committee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security. No similar legislation has been introduced in the United States Senate.
I am strongly opposed to any legislation that would legalize the use of marijuana. The use of illicit drugs poses a serious threat to the well being of our nation, and is an issue that we must address. marijuana is a gateway drug that too often leads to the use of other, more addictive narcotics that harm our communities and families.
Again, thank you for sharing your views with me. If you have any additional questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. In addition, for more information about issues and activities important to Florida, please sign up for my weekly newsletter at http://martinez.senate.gov.
Sincerely,
Mel Martinez
United States Senator
I get so sick of this crap!!!
A gateway drug?!?! That was the best that he could come up with?!? What a crock of shit!!!
I am so tired of the corruption with everything.
There is "an issue that we must address" alright, and it needs to be getting people that aren't scared to do what's right into office to represent us! Gateway drug... that is the oldest lamest excuse there is... lies.
So, you sent a pre-written letter to him and he sent one of his stock form letters in return. The Internet Age ... isn't it wonderful?
You need to send him up to date data that proves all of his lies as false.Tell him that when marijuana was put under schedule 1 drugs it was done because the asshat that was in office ignored all of the data that proved him wrong.Also tell him that pot is not a gateway drug and has been proven,alcahol and tobacco are.I would then ask him to get his ass out if the 1930's and come back to reality.
When i recieve one of those letters i remind him that he is a elected offical who is to do the will of the people.And that you as a citizen of the state will do everything in your power to have him voted out of office.OPH
I will old pothead, i went to the site and am preparing a letter to send back to him with a CC of the crap he sent me. If anyone has any sources they can throw me to cite then please do so. What is amazing is how he thinks that a tired worn out old term like "gateway drug" even holds any validity anymore, either these people are so damn stupid that they turn a blind eye to every shred of evidence pointing in a direction other than strait ahead, or they are profiting from *enter issue here* in one way or another so much that they will continue to do what is wrong despite the very obvious consequences. A plant, this is a plant.... ohh my goodness... God help this country...
He is right, it is a gateway drug, in the same way alcohol was a gateway to illegal gambling and prostitution during prohibition.
When you have to go underground to buy, the seller often sells other product. If it wasn't illegal it would substantially decrease the effects of 'gateway' drug.
I think, well maybe.
But smoking pot never made me want to do heroin.
I personally don't trust man or man made drugs. But that's just me.
The problem is, Pot smokers are still a relative minority. Politicians try and do what the majority wants, Yeah right. But they will definently not listen to an unpopular minority. Now if you could show them a way to make money from cannabis, well therin lies the secret. We must find a way to show the politicians they can make more from legalization than they make from the lobbiests that lobby against it, like the drug companies, the cotton and paper industries, the chemical companies that make synthetic fibers etc. It's all about the money.
Well at least you got an actual reason, lame and fake as it was it's better than something like this which you don't know where to begin argiung against:
"Obama does not support the legalization of marijuana"
It's nice to think we're on the verge of legalization but before that can happen we need a complete re-education of the masses, including policy makers.
