| | I've been in the RE business for longer than I want to admit. I know a LOT about human nature too. I can honestly say that I have NEVER lied to a customer/client ... never! My motto is ... everything above board and disclosed in a timely manner. With that said, in all the years in the business, I've met a FEW unscrupulous sales people and mortgage brokers. Most ... and I emphasize, MOST people in the RE business wouldn't hurt a fly. For those who didn't read contracts, bought at the end of a frenzy, believed everything they were told without investigating, without even asking a single question ... all I can say is, too bad ... learn from the experience. For the dishonest brokers, their time is coming. They are being investigated on the FEDERAL level and they WILL do time. And that's a good thing. Vi

Vi | Well, glad to see you're "honest" But seems there were a few unlike you. In defense of the ignorant home purchasers, I really doubt one out of a hundred reads all that paperwork they sign at escrow, I didn't. I trusted the person that was selling me the house and his representatives, the brokers, but I'd never have agreed to a progressive loan for any reason, If I couldn't afford the home, I'd not buy it. I have owned 7 homes in my life and always used a realtor. I don't think I'd use one again, not for the crook reasons but for the money reasons, 6% of 300,000 is 18,000, thats way too much to pay a realtor IMHO.

| | Vi', you're one of the good guys, but you'll be the first to admit that some buyers are not up on reading contracts, or even be able to understand them if they could. Or even have the nous to hire a civil lawyer to do it for them, or invite a friend to help.
If you get ripped off, you only have yourself to blame... this world is run on money, it's a game to get as much of it as you can before you get too old to spend it.
Then what? You die, and are forgotten.

The crux of this issue is whether or not it is Governments responsibility to "save" these hapless people from themselves.
Certainly there should be laws in place to prosecute fraudulent, unethical sales practices, for the most part these laws are on the books here in US.
What more can or should be done?

Fucking pointless. | You are missing the whole point Skunk. The real goal is to leave the world a better place from your efforts, no matter how trivial, than you came into. Not many can do that, so the goal is very hard. Maybe a Ghandi or a Jesus or even a Rockefellor or a mother Theresa, but the average joe has all he can do to survive. If you give comfort to another human being at some point in your life and refrain from doing damage to others, I'd say you've had a successful life.
