It is a concept which some people just cannot fathom....corporations have to maintain a profit margin...they pass along any increase in the cost of conducting business right along to the consumer.
The consumer is the one having to pay higher prices(taxes)...duhhhh?
It is inconceivable to me that anyone who can walk and chew gum at the same time cannot comprehend this basic fact of our economy!!!

Maybe we should just tax the excess profits they are making at the present. Aren't taxes based on profit after operating expenses, so the only reason to pass it on is to make more profit, How much is enough I ask?

The notion that these companies need to be penalized in some way is downright silly....why doesn't the government reduce it's tax at the pump? The government does not produce one drop of petrol, yet they charge the consumer more per gallon than the retail gas stations make per gallon!
How is this fact not worthy of criticism?
If oil companies are greedy, the government's take is certainly much greedier, because they do nothing to bring this gasoline to the consumer!

Any income tax increase will result in even higher prices....great idea!

Tell that to some minimum wage worker with kids he has to feed and is paying 3.00+ for gas to get to and from work. You right wingnuts seem to forget about the average man that works for a living and is barely making it. Like everyone can just go out and buy oil stocks, how fucking ridiculous!

The economic news that you are referring to is most emphatically tuned to the stock investors and the business and corporate owners. The average joe is losing his hold on middle class by leaps and bounds. There are more home forclosures now than in any time in recent history. So maybe it is you who are not seeing things clearly. How fucking negative would it be to you if they were forclosing on your home. I personally don't know anyone that is better off now than when Clinton was president and that includes a few business owner friends that have cut back. You must live in a pool of Bush supporters that are bulletproof to the recession. Take a look at the real world, the one where people are getting layed off, having their jobs (the ones that used to pay 20.00 an hr) transfered offshore to 1.50 an hr workers. Yeah I'm fucking negative. The economy for the workers is negative also. If you haven't been affected, count yourself as lucky. It's good news for stockholders, but that is a low percentage of workers, they have cashed in their stocks to make their house payments. As soon as my investments come in, (a cool Million bucks) I'll join you at the trough!

also, the foreclosure trend is due to over indulgence, not any national economic status. bratty, materialistic people over extend themselves so they can be perceived a certain way.

as far as this whole, "the world is caving in" stuff, the people i know are doing better now, myself included. the only workers suffering are overpaid union workers and it serves them right for being greedy and demanding too much.
