I'll start out with a hypothetical question.
When the DEA is doing an undercover buy and bust, do they arrest the seller before the transaction has taken place? What is Blago guilty of? Yeah, they'll get some corruption charges, no doubt. But he never "sold" the seat. Similarly, Fitzgerald has said they closed the investigation "in the middle of a crime spree." I'm hearing pundits say something to the effect of "well, he stopped it because he wanted to stop MORE crimes from being committed." Now, when Fitzgerald was investigating the Plame leak, he PURPOSELY left the investigation open so as to catch MORE crimes................ This is chicago politics. Obama knows this. Of course he was talkin to the governor about his successor. Who wouldn't? Personally, I think Obama knew Blago was whorin himself out and kept him at arm's length. Further, I think Obama's transition team put pressure on Fitzgerald to wrap this up before the inauguration. Remember, when Clinton took the white house in 93, he fired all the united states attorneys . I know its a long shot, but I can't think of anything else that would make him stop this investigation prematurely. As for the whole tainted Senator thing. The senate could impeach that senator, or more likely, the democratic party would pressure him/her to step down, and then the new governor could appoint somebody else to tow the line. Just like the bailout, lets flush all this trash down now, before he takes office. It is very interesting. Who knows how much of Chicago would've went down if Fitzgerald had kept this investigation open - that's what irks me about it, the fact the he knew crimes were being committed, and were going to be committed and stopped it. For what? To save some snakes in chicago? |

I dont know man. Im not that familiar with the whole thing, all I can say is I knew it just by looking at Blagoyavich when he first took office. But if I understand your thoughts correctly your probably right. Most likely hes not the only crook out there, and he was probably taken down to save somebody higher up.

Well, it would be interesting to see what happened in 04 between Blago and Obama. If there's anything between the two - thats where most of the meat would be.
But this current investigation won't yield much. Blago refers to the messiah as a "motherfucker". So, it seems like Emmanuel and Obama weren't going to do a deal with Blago. But, there's some dirt there. This is chicago. Its just the way the game is played there. But, its way back. During the democratic primary race Bill Clinton said of Barack - "he has the instincts of a chicago street thug"! |

Bill's been around the block more than a few times. I didn't get the quote exactly right - Clinton said "Barack has the POLITICAL instincts of a chicago street thug" Last edited by cheeseysynapse; 12-10-2008 at 12:53 PM.. |
