Feds warn of terror plotting against NYC subways

WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal authorities are warning law enforcement personnel of a possible terror plot against the New York City subway system during the holiday season.
An internal memo obtained by The Associated Press says the FBI has received a "plausible but unsubstantiated" report that al-Qaida terrorists in late September may have discussed attacking the subway system.
FBI spokesman Richard Kolko confirmed only that his agency and the Department of Homeland Security issued a bulletin last night to state and local authorities, and the information is being reviewed.
Department of Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke said the warning was issued as a routine matter, but added that there may be an increased police presence in New York and other large metropolitan areas.
The report indicates that al-Qaida terrorists "in late September may have discussed targeting transit systems in and around New York City. These discussions reportedly involved the use of suicide bombers or explosives placed on subway/passenger rail systems," according to the document.
"We have no specific details to confirm that this plot has developed beyond aspirational planning, but we are issuing this warning out of concern that such an attack could possibly be conducted during the forthcoming holiday season," states the warning, which is dated Tuesday.
While federal agencies regularly issue all sorts of advisory warnings, the language of this one is particularly blunt.
Intelligence and homeland security officials are working with local authorities to try to corroborate the information "and will continue to investigate every possible lead," the memo says.
Knocke, the DHS spokesman, said the warning was issued "out of an abundance of caution going into this holiday season."
No changes are being made to the nation's threat level, or for transit systems at this time, he said.
"However, transit passengers in larger metropolitan areas like New York may see an increased security presence in the coming days. This includes uniformed and plain clothed behavior detection officers, federal air marshals, canine teams, and security inspectors," Knocke said.





My question is to all those liberal leftists, what do you think should happen now? Should we do nothing and then if something happens blame Bush? Should we frisk old ladies and old black men just to make the possible terrorists not feel singled out? Or should we do what we should have been doing from the beginning and taking every young male with middle eastern descent and frisking them and only them and therefore stopping any possibility of an attack? And dont even bother with the if we look only at middle easterners thats racial profiling crap, its not racial profiling its a fact that these terrorists are middle eastern.

Here we go, fear, fear, fear. All you righties go and pee your trousers now, we can all be afraid. I'd say the only ones that should be afraid are those that use this system for transportation. Living 3,000 miles away, it's hard to elicit fear from me. They should give those people fair warning and step up survielence,(In the subway system only). As for me, fuck it, I am not afraid and all you pussies that don't ride the NYC subway should not be either. BTW, I'm for frisking those that fit the profile and leaving old farts like me alone, hell yeah.

God forbid that it's true.. but the cynic in me seems to notice that when ever Bush is being condemned there always seems to be an alert.. same as during the elections the Russian were ready to knock down US doors, but then .......silence..

Well, the election is over and the good guy won, so what now? If Russia was half smart, instead of sword rattling they would be trying to kiss up to Obama. I doubt if Obama will let Russia push him around, but I'll bet he offers something to bring more peace.

Now you show me where the 'ethnic profiling that has pervaded law enforcement' has occured? When little old ladies are still being stopped and mothers with children frisked and not a specific race or culture then how is that ethnic profiling? Liberal propaganda has made lots of people in this country think that what a liberal says is the gospel.
