I agree with the idea of giving Obama a chance. Every new President deserves that, right?

I believe he will have to track center to start out with. He better come out and say something quick about tax rates on business (meaning a delay of raising them), and he better do it quickly. The market always is a reflection of the future, not a true snapshot of the present. He better say something.....

We've got to get our electricity from somewhere. Burn coal, the atmosphere get fucked up. Build dams, people complain that their houses will be flooded. Put up wind turbines, people bitch that they're "ugly monstrosities" and grind city council meetings to a halt with their bitching. Build nuclear plants, everyone complains that they don't want them in their backyard.

We've got to do something though.

I believe it is a good thing for your country and our world...
America was clearly headed in the wrong direction at a very fast pace...

Now if you were in a car that was accelerating towards a wall, you don't just lift your foot off the petrol, you try for the opposite and slam on the brakes...

Almost all of the republican policies and promises seemed to come down to just lifting the foot off the petrol...

I suppose the primary job function of any politcian, is postponement of the truth.
Just look at the reccecions being announced everywhere now... and people have been warning about this for long, while politicians tried to make out asif nothing was realy all that wrong...

I wish you good luck and a more positive change of regime than what my country saw... it started out realy promising over here and then changed into a shit storm and cronyism...

Everyone needs good luck in these modern times. Actually, what you have just witnessed is a country exchanging one form of cronyism for another, that's all. Unfortunatley what has slipped by most people is the fact that it was the democrats who sank the real estate market and then dominoed those effects through the entire credit industry. It was Government intervention in private markets that gave us this debacle. So guess what?, the folks that created the crisis will now fix it...... The answer is now of course to create even more Government intervention. See the stock market and folks pensions? Wave bye bye..

If Obama creates a presidency based on Clinton domestic economics coupled with Carter's Foreign policies, This is going to be a long four years. I wish Obama luck. Let's see if the Democratic Congress chews him up like they did Carter. Good luck indeed.

Fixed. Not even the hardcore conservatives are advocating less regulation now, just a few hold-outs here on the fringe.

ANC - true, although I suspect that whatever the current president says anymore, people believe the opposite. The guy has below a 50/50 on being right on important issues, so I guess this isn't a bad bet.

I have no doubt that ALL politicians will run for the cover of the regulation umbrella. That does not mean it is good for the country however. Unfortunate Butcher bill is being created for down the road.

LYON, France -- French authorities ordered Friday the temporary closure of a nuclear treatment plant in a popular tourist region of southern France after a uranium leak polluted the local water supply.
But site operator Socatri, a subsidiary of French nuclear giant Areva, said it would permanently shut down the facility at the Tricastin nuclear plant in Provence as part of a previously-planned upgrade.France's ASN nuclear safety authority cited a "series of faults and human negligence that is not acceptable" when it ordered the closure following an inspection at the plant on Thursday.
Residents in the Vaucluse region have been told not to drink water or eat fish from nearby rivers since the leak on Monday night, in which 75 kilogrammes (165 pounds) of untreated liquid uranium spilled into the ground.
Swimming and water sports were also forbidden as was irrigation of crops with the contaminated water.
ASN said it would recommend to local councils that the precautionary measures remain in place for at least a week.

This is not the only one, there are more horrer stories about French nuclear plants.

Obama is building a coalition as we speak. Obama is a "smart" person, not seen for at least the last eight years in the oval office.

We'll see. So far his economic policies indicate otherwise.
