San Francisco weighs decriminalizing prostitution.
The Associated Press: San Francisco weighs decriminalizing prostitution The american prostitute is druged out and has a short life span. I'm not sure if it's because of the laws we have these kind of prostitutes. Anyone whos been to south america knows that their prostitutes are nothing like what we have here. These people are poor and the women use prostitution as a way of income to support themselfs and family. Again, nothing like the nasty american prostitute.... I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not. much like las vegas, while the tourism, hotels, gambling and even the sex trade has really done well. but if you go one block off the strip or head into downtown you will find the under belly of Vegas. Must like the sub basement of hell. What made these gangbangers, pimps, crack whores, methheads and all kinds of hustlers flock to vegas? I might say it's because of the opportunity. SF will save $11 million lone that would otherwise be paid to the police to enforce prostutition laws. What I think SF is overlooking is the sub basement of hell that Vegas has and what that cost is. On the other hand, SF would be able to set in some standers, like std testing and seeing that it will be set in a controlled environment. (less crime faces the prostutite) I'm on the fence, but I'd like to see proposition K, just to see if it's workable. What do you think about prop K?

Maybe if prostitution was regulated the prostitutes wouldn't be allowed to be nasty and drugged out.
I agree with saving the money. 11 million per year is a lot of tax dollars. What's wrong with providing a service if both parties are of legal age and willing? They could also collect some tax dollars from the prostitutes as well. Same thing with weed, stop spending money to fight it and start collecting money by taxing it. It's a win -win. |

Actually I agree that it should be legalized, and in the case of legalized prostitution there is a need for regulation that requires constant medical checks to make sure that they do not have STDs.
And probably some kind of licensure so people that frequent them can ask to see the license. Of course, such a license would need to be for a duration shorter than a drivers' license and have the start date and expiration date printed on them.

There are a variety of conditions under which this may be considered acceptable, but it's still not smart. Prostitutes would love not having to deal with pimps though... Of course they would also somehow find a way to legitimize themselves.
