DIY with Quantum Boards

@booms111 once adjusted to using leds then yes. Using more efficient lights sources is all good and well, but grow your plants out in a proper scrog (not a plant squashed at 3 ft tall and a net stuck on it, that is not a scrog) setup and be even more efficient.
Personally I don't like nets and scrog style. I prefer tree style with plants tops at head height(6ft) in 5 gallon buckets sitting on floor hitting 8oz minimum(6oz on some cookie strains). I'm not worried about efficiency either but if a light can produce a better end product in flavor/smell and same yield I'm all for it.

those are some nice looking plants.
Had 3 and they were around 8oz each.
Not the best way to growas Dara’s yield imo
I just harvested a scrog grow and got way more bud.
Now I am trying 5 big ladies in a 4x8 super cropped with 1100 watts of qbs. But I think I may have super cropped some too hard. Might lose some shoots :wall:

Ohh? Like these? And yes, they are out of control, I never expected this! And funny, Every time some pipes up about how many people are getting 2lb a light, NONE have ever shown pics to back it up. Maybe you did, you and 2 other guys maybe........

Honestly It's hard for us guys with over 10 years of 1k hps experience hitting 30+ oz per light consistently to take most of this LED stuff seriously, especially after seeing the numbers you guys hit when using hps then praising LED yields.

I do own 2 qb boards and I'm preparing to change a genetic test tent from 600hps to 320w of qb's to see what happens. My biggest concern with LEDs is all the short plant grows I see with them, I prefer tree plants at 6ft tall.

no, it is, you're just intentionally playing stupid because you know I'm right.
or more boards, it isnt like his custom COB rig is only 6 COBS like the PLC-6. Hes just pretending not to get my point, because then he has to admit that maybe his new light isn't quite the modern marvel he thinks it is, but is in fact a minor step backwards in efficiency.
Right about what? I'm already working on a (6x) QB288 design. Even if 2 additional boards increased the PPFD by 50%, which is highly improbable, the new value for the quantum rig would be 937.5µmoles/m2/s. If you run the boards full power, the total power draw should be 765w.

Quantum Rig: 765w = 937.5µmoles/m2/s
COB Rig: 757w = 970.41µmoles/m2/s

I've created a CAD drawing for the 6-board design, and at first glance it looks like a lot of the light uniformity issues should be hammered out. Can't know for sure until its physically tested of-course. Regardless, I don't expect a 50% increase in light output from adding 2 boards. Do you?

Even my plants under samsung strips are about chest high and still in first week of flip.
I do prefer running them shorter with LEDs, but, trying new lights and optimizing low plant count grow this round.

Go over to icmag and check out my albums, I'm Pro Headies and was trichster over there before that. Haven't really posted much pictures recently though since I lost some passion last 2 yrs or so to pinball of all things but I'm fully back in now.

Do you know of any watt for watt in same square foot led(cob/qb) vs hps grows ? Id like to see that. Basically 2 HLG 550s vs 1k hps. I'd do the test but that's almost a $2k test to buy the 550s.
I did close to that I had a1000 hps so figure 1100 watts in a room last year same strains and plant count then put 2 hlg 600 kits in the same room running maybe 3/4 of the way turned up I had 22 Oz out of hps and 3.5 ish pounds under the hlg

well I got my 2 600 kits from growers lights. First off thanks to stephen and robin from hlg and kurt from growers lights. Kurt was super helpful throughout the whole process. I flipped the lights at the end of week 1 and i saw an immediate difference in the plants. I started at 50% @18inches and am now up to 80% at 18 inches in a room that's 40 inches x 7 ft and have super nice coverage i was able to take most of the ducting out of my room and gained a bit of height. The room is easier to maintain any temperature vs the hps. I think if you guys are on the fence about going to qb's so far i would say go for it! these are not your daddies leds.
I'd believe that in a room that size and with your environment issues with hps. How long did you run the hps before switching to qb's

@booms111 check out this thread:

Don't know how many ounces per plant, but it's an impressive grow. (We derailed it a bit in the middle with some squabbling with our favorite troll, but it gets back on track.) I'll try to find some more examples for you later.

I believe that it's really only a matter of time before the doubters are silenced. COBs, QB, strips - any way you slice it, LED is here to light the headstone of HID.

Thanks man! I also believe the future is LED. Now my problem is do I wait until the next breakthrough in LED happens or switch now with present technology.

Yeah, that's a tough one. Especially if you've got growing under HID really dialed in. But look at it this way - once you get LED dialed in, you'll still be better off than you were, even if the next generation of LED blows this one out of the water.

Even now that you are finally acknowledging the difference between a PCB and a light that uses several of those PCBs in a specific configuration, you are still ignoring the Samsung strips that several of us have mentioned.
The fact is watt for watt, these LM561c s6 diodes are more efficient than our current cob options. You can fudge that by spending more money up front and using more COBS at lower current, but you can do the exact same thing with LM561c diodes for the exact same effect.

How hot can these boards run? I mounted a qb96 in an old cfl shop light fixture with a meanwell
Lpf-40-24. Had it on for an hour+ and it is at 124f degrees but I would imagine it will creep on up.
