Hermies - is it worth growing out their seeds?

Not using these for anything but the herm test and some smoke. Hairs are starting so I started a weak nute feeding today. I’ll grab a pic next time I go out and rip on da Buddha. bongsmilie
Yea, that should be fine. Worst case, you get some seedy bud. No harm done. The only time I'd really recommend against it, is if you are in the middle of a big breeding project, and can't risk stray pollen.

These "hermie" offspring would be good to use for testing any new techniques, as well, such as LST, topping, nutrient comparison, etc.. There would be no wasting of your best seeds.

I started with 12 of these in the 4" pots. I still have 10 going in the 4"ers. I transplanted two of them to 2 gallon bags about two weeks ago. All these were planted at the same time and are the same age. Lesson: Don't grow in 4" pots.

I may have pre judged the white hairs. My eyes suck. I just took a closeup pic. Could be maybe maybe not.

i don't see white hairs at all......looks like it's holding on to it's original way.

the last time i saw white hairs was when mine started flowering, the flower was a nice yellow tint, when she hermed she flipped from that yellow, and the flower turned white......

i have a feeling that the 2 in the 2gal pots will stay to the original line....think if it turns it will be under heavy stress...best suggestion i would follow if it were me, is to leave it alone and let it do it's thing naturally, if it's there she'll show ya....

Here are the 10 herm seed plants. No herms at all. It's hard to keep these watered in the 4" pots. They use up water like mad. Ok buds though.

Damn man those things stretched for the sky lol but in all seriousness just came upon your thread I managed to Hermie one of my girls to northern lights from sensi to high temps and was randomly shutting the other light off to try and drop temps back down but seeing this has given me hope that maybe my Hermie seeds will turn out alright as well

A few years ago I had a nice big girl to hermi and she seeded the other 5 girls that I had in the room with her. They didn’t get hit all that bad, but each of them hade about 10 to 20 seeds come harvest. My profile pic was actually taken from the batch of which I speak of. Anyways, after reading a few forums I was put under the impression that those seeds would be 100% fem, and so I got curious like yourself and decided to tested it out. So I waited until i had just switched my next run of girls to 12/12, and then I popped about 5 of those hermi seeds and put them in with the. It took them about 3 or 4 weeks to start flowering, but aventually they did, and yes all 5 did turn out to be female, but it didn’t take them no time to start popping out pollen sacks, I think that they started to pop out the pollen sacks roughly two weeks after they started to flower. So then I took them out of my tent, and placed them under some leds that I had in another part of the building. What I found that worked for me is, I would spray them down real good with plain water about twice a week or so. I would never normally do this to my regular girls, but I figured hell why not, because water does kill pollen and all. I would of course keep a fan blowing on them as well to ensure that no mold would develop. They kept pooping out the sacks one after another after another, but after all was said and done I think that out of all 5 of the little hermies I might have gotten 10 seeds give or take a few, and each hermi produced roughly 1/4 to 1/2 oz of bud (dry weight). They actually finished a lot quicker that the normal girls that I had in the tent at the time too, a few weeks faster in fact. I may have taken some pics, but I can’t remember if I did or not. I will go through my albums in a bit, and if I can find any then I will attach them to this post. Anyways, the only downfall was the fact that one of the little hermies did get hit with a little mold on the inside of the bud, but only the bottom half, and only the one plant. It was the one that was catching the least of the breeze from the fan. However, after all was said and done I thought of it as a success, the bud was great, it didn’t taste completely horrific or anything, and like I said between all 5 of them they didnt produce many seeds at all. Would I do it again, probably not unless I was desperate, there was a little more work that went into it, and the worries that I kept from the possibility of accidentally pollinating my other girls stressed me out so much that I’m surprised that I didn’t hermi myself LoL. Yea I think I developed a clean freak ocd habit over that little project, because I would nothing short of bath if I had even walked passed that hermi room, before I would go to check on the normal girls that I had at that time LoL. But one thing is for sure, if I do ever have another hermi pop up in my tent then rather just killing it, I will instead just repeat what I had done with my little test hermies. Hope this helps, and good luck to ya friend...

that's what I've been wondering myself. Been watching this thread for new developments haven't seen any.

hermie seeds are basically a pot luck. It's a killer experience and experimental properties over all.

Yeah I'm still confused on whole subject I understand there are landraces the are prone to hermie? which would be true hermie but then again seems all strains have it as survival technique but If a plant gets stressed and decides to hermie I don't understand how that can now turn into a gene in the strain.im also confused on if a plant to be hermie does it show both sexes in veg or can just happen at any time?i have a Micky kush plant that was pollinated slightly by stressed blue dream and that mix would be nice if they were any good I also bought great strains and don't wanna risk losing them lol

So what happened?
It turns out the little guys finished just fine. No herms.

My guess on what happened - I grow in temps that exceed optimal temps. Maybe the original plant just got stressed a bit. Also my light is on 24/7. Here and there I need to shut the room down for 1-2 days.

Right on so seeds were fine from a stressed female and I guess that would be a fem seed if you had that kind of turn around or did u have some regular males

I had a similar experience a couple of years ago. I was growing a bag seed and had a cut of cali pink. Everything went great but unfortunately had to cut them down early (long story). Never noticed any nanners on either plant but both plants were full of seeds.
Thought the bag seed went hermie on me but just for fun decided the next year to pop a few and see what happened. I have also heard that they should be all female because they were pollinated by a female so no x chromosome present. Well I ended up with all males? Any thoughts on this?

I would avoid anything hermie-related at all costs. If a lady shoots balls and pollinates, producing seed, it’s likely her offspring will too. I don’t see the point of risking it when you can get some quality genetics for such a good price these days.

I would rather get better at growing, not hunting through a bunch of girls to find which ones are dropping pollen from one nug and have caused my entire room to seed. So easily avoidable.

Stick to regular seeds, gamble with “female” seeds and stay the fuck away from anything hermied.
