Genetics or problem Cherry bomb light green

Can't seem to decide what if anything is wrong. Picture does not show pale color well, third week of flower. Growing in FFOF like soil, maybe a little hotter. Have used General Organics nutrients about 50% of time, ro water with cal-mag the rest of the time. Leaves have been very pale in color although none have completely yellowed and fallen off. Stretched about 30" from flip, straight up. I thought there might be nute lockout due to hot soil and nutrients and was about to try to leach the soil with ro water and a little cal-mag.

When I looked last night, stems very purple red, where connected to leaves a bright red almost and finally, the pistil's nice and white until about half-way down to calyx they turn pink and red.

After I saw pink and red on pistils figured maybe i was doing something right or there is some lockout that may be causing the colors.

Anyone familiar with growing cherry bomb from seed?

Cherry Bomb
Is currently Available
Name Of Type:

Cherry Bomb

Breeding Information:
Swami Organic Seed repopulated with permission from original Mr Greengenes 1979 MauiWowie IBL seeds.

Known Phenotypes:
A 50/50 hybrid from BOEL sourced and bred 70’s Oaxacan Mexican and Afghani. Selected for potency, taste, and flower shape for over 3 decades by the late Mr Greengenes.

Growth Characteristics:
Fast growing sativa expressions with the more desired ‘monkey fist’ indica expressions surfacing also.

Scent:
Metallic and sweet cherry and wood smell and taste on most.

Appearance:
Taller Mexican Oaxacan spear sativa with subdued Afghani expressions.

Effect of smoking:
Moderate to strong sativa/indica based inebriation. Not as long lasting as most Thai hybrids, some expressions are psychedelic in nature. More a midday toker’s herb as it won’t disable your thinking or driving capabilities. Nonanxiety, noncouchlock. Not extremely social, but functional.

Flowering Time:
60 - 90 days

Breeder’s notes:
This is the one and only authentic 1979 Cherry Bomb MauiWowie IBL from it’s now deceased breeder Mr Greengenes. There are a few unethical seed companies and breeders that have released Cherry Bomb under it’s own name as a Cherry Bomb hybrid crossed out to other modern types, only a couple of reputable sources for the original unmolested line still exist worldwide: Swami and Verdant Green. “Bomb Seeds” and “Reeferman Seeds” are the imposters.

I have repopulated the Cherry Bomb twice. Trying to make the same kind of selections the late Mr Greengenes noted, and at the same time maintain diversity in its various expressions from this IBL. Another future breeding will follow Mr Greengenes based selections for continuance of the line. There were intersex issues in the TO and BO x CB,but more suppressed in the pure IBL. Breeders these days recognize Maui’s as ones to carry this trait.

Mr. Greengenes often stated that he selected most for potency and a metallic cherry taste. Some expressions have a very sweet cherry like fragrance. The smoke is mellow and quite intoxicating, but not overpowering. I can recognize both Mexican and Afghani parents, but it tends to lean towards the Mexican side for sure. Mr G thought there may be Thai in the lineage, but having the BOEL come out and say exactly what the lineage is pretty much clears all speculation on origin. There may have been Thai introduced in the lineage later after BOEL breedings on the Islands, but these do indeed act more like Mexicans compared to these ripping Thai’s we have.

The ton of Oaxacan went to Hawaii. On a beach in Manzanillo, Eddie Padilla held up a spear and said it looked like a lightening bolt due to the frosty flowers glistening in the sun. They called the weed and the boat “Lightning Bolt.”

Disclaimer: Please note that we do not take responsibility for the traits expressed in cannabis that appear in phenotype expression and variation of effect. Some of these types are unrefined landrace crosses, landrace hybrids, etc., and may exhibit undesirable traits not bred out yet or developed into a stable line. However, the history of the lines speak for themselves and any known imperfections are not offered. We do not exaggerate early flowering times, as most sativa/indica hybrids will have flowering time variations that range between both parents realistically between 55 and over 100 days to full fruition depending upon expression and line.

5 gallon pots, yikes, 15 gallons of RO water? I think the RO water I am using has unstable ec.? Tested PH at 8.7 then added 5 ml of GO cal-mag (lower than recommended) to 2.5 gallons of RO water and PH tested at 6.0. So, no cal-mag either?
Did you say to pee on the leaves? Need to learn how to foliar spay i guess, thanks again.

PH for the runoff from RO water, nothing added, was about 6.4

5 other varieties, same conditions, green and pretty healthy looking. I am not always sure. All plants in room have color on leaf stems, mainly red and purple.

Could this be a lighting issue, i think i have seen something about this color under LED, using cob vero29 v7 400w for each 3x3.

Easy, get an enzyme for your leaching, second get amonium nitrate and foliate undersides of leaves 1 hour before lights on or 25 percent micro to water ratio. Your stretching is caused by night day temp change. Getting to cold at night and consider cutting that plant in half next time you flip to 12 12

@newgrow16 did you ever finish this grow?

just wondering what you thought. have heard really good things about this strain
I have three more going now. I had multiple issues with soil and environment, nothing to do with genetics. I believe lockout caused by high ph in soil with high ph water, low humidity and high temperatures. Blue Orca Haze and cherry bomb were favorite smokes even with all the issues.

vostok,

I just spoke with Mr. Greengenes the other day-VERY MUCH ALIVE. He always has the best tips for growing cherry bomb.

Oh, he won't be on this board.

@vostok was right but solution, hmmm. Problem was bad soil, bad watering habits and poor environmental controls.

Reusing soil for two years now, started with GAS beginner blend with some CC modifications. Air conditioner added and better living soil at times with red wigglers hatching from EWC top dress.

Offspring of that grow, Cherry Bomb x BOH:

If you are having ph problems with water that can be remedied by dosing a tablespoon of white vinegar in a gallon of tap water. It will lower the ph. I also, since my water supply has chloramines, some drops of something made for the aquarium trade called Amquel which binds the chloramine into a nontoxic state.

Hi. You said Mr. Greengenes is still kicking around. Is he really? And why won't he be on this board?

I read someone say (a decade ago or more) that Mr. Greengenes' version of Cherry Bomb was nearly all Sativa, and yet I read that Swami's Cherry Bomb is 50/50. Is there a story there? I'm not conversed well with seeds and strains, and I feel overwhelmed with all the variety that's currently available. I'm like you, an old time toker, and I've been looking for quality bud for a long time now. My opinion of the stuff I've been getting of late is one of disappointment. I have been looking for something that is akin to the complex, and sometimes but not necessarily knock-you-off-your-feet, experience of the 70s Columbian Gold, Acapulco Gold, Panama Red, etc. and I am expecting that Mr. Greengenes' Cherry Bomb would fit that bill, and that maybe Swami's 50/50 version would too? I just feel that today's hybrids that I've tried are lacking in that department (maybe it's not because they're hybrids so much as something else?), and, like craft beer, the great majority all taste alike and sorely lack in character, imo. So, having read some of your comments here (including to Elite re: outdoor/indoor growing which I happen to agree with you), I guess I'm looking for an opinion from someone who would probably know what I mean.

NelsonEh, yeah he sat in my car when he brought me an Oreo clone. He has limited time and doesn't scour the boards. You can see video of him in the Growing with Fishes videos. There is a new version of Cherry Bomb we discussed. He grinned and giggled when I told him about it.
