What I've learned so far as a Noob

I'm on Day 45 of my grow and just a few thoughts I had... wanted to share...

1. Context is everything when researching... tons of info here and on the interwebs... but it is old, most of it is pseudo-science, and even more of it is overkill... which leads me to
2. Don't love your plants too much... I keep making this mistake... every day... why haven't I learned yet?
3. Keep a log of: what you do each day, what they look like (both pictures and in your words), what you think is happening.

Anyway, I honestly think those are the top things that a new grower needs to keep in mind...

From day to day, I've thought I found the new thing that's gonna make FAT ASS DANK... and the next day realized it's total bullshit...

Then I think my plant is going to DIE!!!! and the next day, it didn't...

Then I thought I did something(e.g. watered) 5 days ago... then I looked back and it was only 3...

The internet, and your mind are great places... but holy fuck can they really mess with you :P

Cheers!

You're on the right track! Every element of your grow has to be optimized to get to top shelf. Takes time to master it all and deal with pest and mold issues that present many curveballs. Keep having fun! :bigjoint:

for sure man...too much of anything can be bad. most of the time, less is better.
plants have been growing without our help for a long time and doing just fine.

i remember first starting out and fretting over every little thing and checking on the plants like every hour lol. now (with my outdoor plants at the moment) i have them on a water timer and every now and then give em some nutrients with ph check and let them do their thing :) of course there's little things here and there to watch for and do, but just let em do their thing

I'm also a newbie to growing, but so are college graduates new to the workforce. I found that yes a lot of info is misleading or bro science. Keep it simple works best or implementation of the basic first then move on to more technical growing.

All of this is true to a point. As humans we could all go back to cave man days and homo sapiens would survive but a lot more of us would die in the first year if we survived birth as would the women who birthed us.

Feral hemp will survive conditions that would kill the inbred, hi-test monsters that have been selectively bred to blow your mind with a couple of tokes. Like race horses you can't just toss a bale of hay over the fence and expect them to win the cup.

I could never keep a house plant alive to save my life but when I got into growing pot I found my thrill on Blueberry Hill. Still not worth much growing in dirt but give me a tub full of water and decent nutes and I can pull a half pound off of one plant indoors. DWC ScroG tho with damn near another half elbow of frosty sugar trim for hash and edibles.

I had to learn from trial and error but if you can wade thru the BS or find a pot mentor you can be growing killer bud in a couple years instead of 4 decades like me and many of my ilk.

Good luck to y'all!

What I learned as a noob a bit ago is to trust your gut, not your neighbors. Meaning, if you have done the research and you have that gut feeling you know what you're doing; don't wait around and let someone tell you otherwise. Don't search for someone to prove you wrong. I use to go to all the experienced people I knew, they grew for years or they just know about gardening in gen. anyone who is older than you will believe they know more. I'm a young breeder, grower with only 3 grows under my belt but I can tell you I know way more than my buddy who has been growing for 7 years. Why? He isn't up to date, he's stubborn and is older than me. He has his way and he knows what's best but yet I keep doing better in my plants every year lol follow your heart, your gut and you're own mind and only take advice sometimes. That's what I learned for sure lol ps, I believe we all love our plants too much from time to time

They aren't huge, but it's because I can't let them be lol had to keep them in 5 gal the whole Sumer and it made them root bound lol one day I'll be able to have the space for my patience aha

Some great learning here!

1. Don't be too quick to dismiss info cos its old; this game isn't exactly renowned for its cutting edge in science and botany, and in amongst all the stoner lore and myth is some time-honored farming knowledge. Learn to know when you see it!

2. Yes, be patient! A watched kettle never boils! We are also dealing with a highly robust species who will take some knocks... heck, some of them might even benefit the end product.

3. Keeping records is very smart! And if you have to adjust to a problem be sure to do one thing not ten. Then when you notice improvement, go back and isolate your variable and do it again!
